Hi, I could have searched. But maybe no answer.
Here is my question.
If the Cambelt has broken on a '96 1242cc punto, will there be any engine damage?

Is the car 8v or 16v?

8v are non-interference so no engine damage.
16v are interference so will damage valves and maybe pistons as well.

more than likely then its bent valves.. Time to take the head off and inspect it.

Do you know why the belt snapped though? Was it just old? Something touching it causing it to fray? damage on one of the pulleys? water pump not spinning freely?

last thing you need is to fix it only for it to happen again!
