How to test HT leads

as title how do you test the HT leads??

Take a multi-meeter and measure the resistance of the leads.
Depending on the length of the lead, the lead should be from 3 to 20kOhm.

with then engine turned on i presume?
also someone told me that you can just take one plug out at a time whilst the engine is running and if the revs drop then there working??

The taking off the plug method is with the engine ON,
my method is to take the lead off and measure the resistance between the front and the back of the cable (plug part-coil part)

dont no if i have a multi meter so the second option mite b the only option

Taking off the leads of the plugs, will show you if the plugs work and the leads too, but wont show if the lead functions right.

Try it and see.

do they work? (got to 8) the dont work (go to 9)

8. drive off happy

9. take back inside shop

10. get your money back!


dont do it at a motor factors because they will tell you to **** off when you try steps 9 and 10.
