Technical How to change the head unit

Blimey, if I could afford to be selling a car I bought brand new after a few weeks, like some of you guys do, I could afford to drive around in a Merc or equivalent!

Some people don't drive a 500 because they can't afford something more expensive. I bet a high percentage of 500 drivers buy them even though they can afford something a lot more expensive.

Which is one reason why the 500 is overpriced (compared to the panda).

lol :) Stay away from mercs, you have to pay a lot for the fun factor, otherwise they are just normal cars and expensive to run. I am happy with fiat now took a while to get rid of emotions attached to a 3 pointed star.

If i buy one it would have to be the new SLK, but the A500 excites me more.

edit.. and you can get 2 a500s for price of SLK and give one to mum, but not same colour :)

Just a thought - given that the OP is now selling his car minus its fandangled audio set up, shouldn't this thread be re-titled How to change the head unit back?

Yep. This is not a criticism of sutts (even though I'm sure he'd love it) but I do have to wonder what sort of thought process goes into buying cars for some people. I posted on here abusing 500 owners for a good year before I decided to buy a 500 and had about half a dozen testdrives to get to know the car and how it felt on bigger wheels and so on before I signed on the dotted line. I knew exactly how small the car was and there have been no real surprises. Although we could have afforded to chop it in and buy something else, it's still such a big financial decision that I think it had to be made without being emotional, though I understand why people make emotional decisionts with the 500.

I'd been looking at the 500 as a possible replacement for my Ka pretty much since it was launched, but didn't actually order one until Dec 2009. I'd probably have deferred the purchase until the Ka finally gave up the ghost, were it not for the scrappage scheme coming to an end - that £2k saving was just too good to pass up.

Having had the 500 for about 5 months, ordering the Panda for LadyKitching's commute to work was a much quicker and easier decision - though again motivated by a £2k+ discount that happened to be around at the time.

I'm planning to keep both cars for a good while yet.

only one year, seems longer and I have only been here a few months :)

You are right in the middle with your purchase based on logic. There was another chap here who was working in a supermarket and bought the 500 and could not afford it. For some people its a learning process, unless you have spare cash and don't care. The only thing I regret is not getting the bigger wheels - I blame you for not pushing me hard enough :D

:D I did try though! if there was a byDaniel spec, it's be a BNW lounge with side rubbing strips with 16 multispokes plus a set of 14" steelies and wheel trims with Vredestein Snowtrac 3's on them and it'd come standard with Koni FSD's and would have the option of Bilstein coilovers. Oh and it'd have switchable ESP too :) It'd come with black ambience and red leather.

I consider myself someone who runs on logic. I would never have bought a 500 if not for the 2k discount as jrkitching mentioned. It was only then that it got anywhere near the Panda for VFM and the benefits of having nice wheels, something that was going to hold its value just in case it did need to be sold and so on came into play. To me the very idea of buying something so expensive and having the possibility of not liking it simply doesn't compute.

you can't argue with the choices and the £2k discount. So what would you buy next, are you an A500 wanabeee too ?

Well, for my next car I quite fancy a Giulietta. As I always say, the 500 is a keeper and there's no need to get rid of it. The Subaru is going off the road as soon as we get another house with a garage. We probably won't be able to afford a Giulietta straight away so might buy something fun and cheapish like a 306 cabriolet for the wife to drive about in.

When I'm finished with the Subaru it'll each puny little A500's for breakfast for a fraction of the cost ;)

I've been looking at the Giulietta. They've not introduced the auto box into it yet though :(

It's getting a DDCT box any day now :)

DDCT box + 170bhp 1.4 multiair turbo = £30 a year road tax ;)

DDCT box on the Mito is 135bhp and gives 121grs so it would be in the UK Band 120-140grs/km - don't know what that is in £ road tax.
Mito haven't realised a 170bhp yet with DDCT but I would guess that it would 139grs minus 5 for the DDCT = 134grs/km.

I knew the DDCT box was coming, just didn't know when. No mention online when I checked a few weeks ago.

So I'll be looking at about 3 years in order to obtain a used one as there's no way I'm buying new :p

I'd happily buy one new if the money situation was OK. They seem to be discounted well and IMHO prices will only go down further as time goes on.

You've sold the car already?? You've only had the car (from new?) for what, 3 weeks or so? Blimey

Three weeks and a stereo installed and removed.:p I'm not claiming to be sane though.
