Technical How to adjust idle rpm?

900 rpm + 50 means it can be up to 950 rpm to be "normal"
i think it mk1 is 850 - 950 Rpm same with the mk2?

Not sure how to adjust the Injection models, carb models you just turn a screw on the side

Ahh well im presuming its the same because you can rev the engine from under the bonnet by moving the cable. Theres a screw that the cable rests on which in reality looks like you can screw it out holding the cable back more making the rpm higher?

NEVER adjust the screw.

If everything is operating correctly, and the ECU has learnt the idle setting- it should idle perfectly.

If you've got a problem, try the basic reset (ignition on for 1 min, off for 1 minute, then start the car and leave to warm up). If it doesn't settle down right, you need to find the cause.

What version/engine have you got anyway?

Fair enough, i havent messed anyway.

Just the basic 1.2 8V

Idles around 700-800

Your idle sounds fine(y)
When was it lasted serviced? might be needing new spark plugs to bring it up a little

as said above the ecu will adjust the idle depending on the conditions, if the cars running without faults leave the idle alone.

IIRC, the Mk2 ECU target was around 750-800. Bear in mind the rev counter is on the low-speed CAN network and may be slow to respond and/or be slightly off.

another reason not to mess with a screw if it has one is because if you do and you come off a fast motorway run ,the idle control valve could take a floppy and have you ramming someone in front

I have a 59 plate grand Punto and replaced throttle body, coil pack, water temp sensor probe yet when reaching operating temperature the car settles at 800-900 rpm then shuts down. i Keep throwing money at this with no cure please help.

This is the Fiat Punto Mark 2/3 section of the forum.

A common fault is a car cuts out when the failing crankshaft sensor gets hot. The rpm is derived from the crankshaft sensor. The mechanic should be able to monitor the signal from the sensor to see if the wave form changes
