Can anyone answer the above as i've got a friend whos sellin their bravo with no red key. How much is a replacement also?

Hi well i was talking to someone the other day about the red key. They said you only need it to be able to get another blue key at the time fiat were the only who did it so they could charge 400+ but now timpsons can copy from the blue key. I think the only real reason you'd need the red key is if the immobiliser goes tits up but that probably wont be a cheap job anyway. Please don't quote me on this info though.

Mostly correct, a new red key is circa. £800 as it needs all new keys, locks and ECU. Timpsons can copy a blue (or red for that matter) key, but it's not a genuine new blue key it's a copy of the other one.
As for needing it, only if you get problems with the ECU/immobiliser not happened (that I know of) on the Bravo/a range, but has been heard of on the Punto Mk1's as they're a bit older.

I never needed it for my mk1 punto i did have the key but never needed to use it.

I have had Fiats/Alfa since 1994 and I have NEVER needed the red key.
But - you know how it goes; when you need it, you won't have it!

Definately true.
I'm now on my 7th Fiat since 2001, and I've not needed a red key for any of them.
My first Fiat, a Punto 75Sx, I didn't even know there was such thing... Until the Bravo came along

Having just bought a Brava I tried to get to the nitty-gritty about this issue.
Evidently people who don't have the Red-Key always say you'll never need it!......Rubbish say Red-Key owners, anything to do with the ECU requires it, no question. Also it's very expensive to get one.
That being so I tend to go along with the theory that as Fiat provided one Red and two Blue Keys then you shouldn't buy without them UNLESS you get a big discount....big enough to take the risk!
Having said that I still made sure mine had ALL the keys...can't be too careful when buying used cars!
