Ive now got my caliper paint and it comes with some instructions. i just thought i would ask those who have already done it.

obviously i would need to clean the calipers before i paint them. what would be the best way to do this?

all replies much appreciated(y)

When I have done mine on previous car I have prep'd them with an alcohol base cleaning wipe (no need to sand) Just make sure they are spotless, I don't kno0w what paint you are planning to use, I have always used Caliper paint, But I know alot of people just use their desired colour hammerite and tend to get professional results. But honestly Rolf it is probably one of the easiest DIY styling mods to do.

whooaaa you got ripped off big stylee

yep but i bet you pay a premium for purple

anyhow onto your question.....

Always make sure the car is properly supported on axle stands and a decent jack DON'T work on a car only supported by the provided jack and chock all the other wheels set the handbrake firlmy and leave in gear and on firm level ground......

your best off removing the pads if you don't know how to do this DON'T (or ask your dad for help) any work on the braking system should be done with great care and all bolts should be refitted to the correct torque and thread locked where appropriate...... ...

clean the caliper really well use some acidic alloy wheel cleaner (autoglym wheel clean is nice and aggressive and rinse well) to remove the thickest grime, then wipe over well with brake cleaner solvent to remove any oil or grease now if they are fairly clean give a light rub over with a wire brush and some 100 grit wet and dry to give the paint a key....

clean again with solvent then paint several THIN layers with a light rub down in between coats and allow to dry

ok that makes perfect sense its basically the same kind of prep you do for any paint job.eg clean rough up multiple light coats.

how many coats would you suggest? as i know this kind of paint is different.
