Year 2000 built Fiat Ducato 2.8jtd with mechanical speedo cable.

Speedo has been making a very slight rubbing noise now and then for a few hundred miles and needle has been wobbling a lot at low speeds always since we had the van 6 years ago.
Now speedo has stopped working at all.

I suspect the problem is either at the drive cog end where it goes into the gear box or maybe at the top end where it connects to the rear of the gauges section which is the recessed part of the dashboard fascia.

Anyone know how to disconnect and remove the cable from where it joins the rear of the dash, and also from where it joins the gearbox please?

Hi
Suggest you do a search using "Ducato speedo cable" in the Green search box at the top of the Ducato forum page, it found in excess of 9 pages of results most of which seem to say - cables, pinion drives etc are no longer available, you can also try Citroën or Peugeot parts lists maybe they can supply parts if needed.
Cheers

Result!

In case it helps others:

Withdrawal of cable from gearbox end, and unclipping of it at it's locating points allowed plenty of freedom to allow removal of dashboard dials section (just undo the two little torx bolts on either side of the dials section and withdraw towards steering wheel....there's plenty of spare on all the electrical cables to allow this).
The old inner cable had actually broken, at the little flexi-joint point just before the head connection piece on its top end.
Must have been gradually going for ages.

Amazingly, the Local Fiat Dealer actually had an original part complete speedo cable in stock (69 euros plus IVA, so about 80 euros in total.

Now fitted, and the speedo dial needle is rock solid and smooth in its travel.
