Hi!

My name is Tom, I'm 22 and only been driving for 18months or so. I live in Essex, about 10 minutes from Lakeside Shopping Centre.

I got a 1.2 8V Punto Active when I passed. I will put pictures up soon. Its not in the greatest shape but it is my first car and I love it.

I need to get the front bumper replaced as it is damaged from hitting something. Is this an easy job to do or a nightmare?

Anyway, thats all for now. Any help and advice would be much appreciated :)

Welcome! :)

Replacing the front bumper is a piece of cake! Two star screws at top (near bonnet catch, cant miss them!) two 7-8mm bolts under wheel arches right at the top, you will need a long extension to get at these. And that'll drop the bumper half then I believe there's bolts underneath that need removing then the bumper should just come off.

With new bumper just do everything in reverse and it'll be tickita-boo sorted (y)

Also, may I recommend getting the underseal redone to avoid any form of corrosion and rust etc! < not one of the nicest jobs to do but saves your backside from forking out for welding every year or getting those lovely fail sheets

Other than that, ENJOY!

Thank you very much!
Where is the best place to get a new bumper from?

Hi Tom and welcome to Fiatland. The 1.2 8v is a great motor and capable of well over 100k if minded. Not saying you don't do it but weekly checks will payback big time. Watch the coolant level and if it's dropping find the leak and there should be no watery noises in the dash on startup - it needs bleeding. Change out the oil at 9k/12 mo or sooner if you reckon it too black and check the gearbox oil level at least at every oil change.
Almost everything that could possibly go wrong ( and some impossible things) are covered here somewhere.

Welcome! (y)

I got mine from a Forum member: so keep your eyes peeled on the Classifieds section! Otherwise, scrappies and eBay are good sources....

Note, though that -- even though a five-door front bumper will fit a three-door car (and vice versa) -- front bumpers are not interchangeable between Mk2 and Mk2b (facelift) cars: whatever the number of doors.... However, rear bumpers are interchangeable between Mk2 and Mk2b -- but must have the same number of doors (i.e. a three-door Mk2b rear bumper will fit on a three-door Mk2). Clear as mud, eh...?!

To add to homeward post yes eBay will be your best bet, but if you're in a hurry to get it done (talking from experience :p) then scrappy will be the best place to go, just make sure you get the right colour though as some colours on the MK2's have slight different shades of original colour.

You can find your paint code under the bonnet and look up it's a silver sticker, note it down and when you go scrappy tell them that code same goes for ebay tell the seller the colour you're after by providing that code!

**** cake for me, the Torx screws underneath were balls of rust, totally welded onto the radiator panel.

Check these first, they are the hardest ones to get off, rest are relatively easy

I love cake! :D

Mine weren't all that bad to be honest, a bit of wd40 a few minutes waiting game and they came out without trouble :)

The worse ones for me were the small bolts at the top of wheel arches, they were jammed tight!
