I did hear stories from people fighting really hard to remove it. I couldn't quite understand why. Fortunately, I didn't go through any problems with it on my Punto when it needed to be changed.
If you dont have lift-off / power-on knocks or slop, and movement of the gear lever is a classic sign, dont change this as a precaution as you may not need to do so.
In that case I think I'll leave it alone, is it easier to replace when the clutch is being done? As this is a job in the not too distant future ( thrust bearing whining) that will be a garage job.
