Hi, just getting ready for mot since i brought the car off the road, and found the horn does not work, I traced it to be the steering wheel itself, it appears that the wheel is on the splines all the way but the slip ring does not come anywhere near the contacts, also the wheel does not engage with the indicator self canceling ring, seems it 10-15mm too far out, was there a change over point somwhere, my car is an early 1500 1979, with rev counter sweepmg in normal direction not back to front style, it also appears the steering wheel is a origanal one, any ideas

Iirc, the steering column switch assembly is held in place on the steering column by a clamp, so it's adjustable up or down a little. The clamp is accessed either by removing the lower switch shroud or there might be an access hole with a rubber blanking plug. The clamp bolt takes an 8mm socket.

If you can move the column switches upwards, it might sort out both the horn and indicator cancelling problems.

AL.
