im hoping someone can help me here. I bought a new stereo to fit so I could use my phone and play d.a.b. radio though the phone to the stereo, and use Spotify, rather than my old, battered, limited cd collection, but the wiring has thrown me.

none of the adaptor kits looms match whatever is going on with the original one, and I'm quite frankly getting annoyed I can't work it out!

does anyone know what I need to do to to get this to work (a simple list of which points need to be what colour will do, so the right wires will go to the right points on the new one.)

the last 2 pics are the new stereos wiring diagram, and all the others are the original one.

thanks in advance.

Hello, usually a FIAT - ISO adapter should be enough to connect the new radio to the existing installation.

Usually the adapters have 2 cables than can be exchanged: a permanent +12V and an ignition +12V. In my adapter the cables were red and yellow as far as I remember. Black is the ground. It looks that the new radio diagrams keeps the same cable colours.

When you compare the sockets, the one that goes to the speakers has the same layout. Probably is also of same size.

Looking at the power socket, it looks like it has the same layout except the ignition +12 V, which originally was on pin 5, but on the new radio it should be on pin 7:

4 is permanent +12V --> red / green cable
5 is ignition +12V
8 is ground --> black cable

The two other cables in this plug are CAN cables. I can't see a CAN connection on the diagram of the new radio.

The 3rd plug from the old radio seem to be for the Blue&Me and / or the USB socket in the glove box. Plus the steering wheel buttons. Depending if you want to use them or not, and if your new radio allows it.

Some more information here:

In my opinion if you plug the two 8 pin plugs from the car installation into the new radio, it should be powered by a permanent +12V and should be working.

But it's my opinion, you have to take the risk on your own.

I hope that someone else will confirm what I wrote above.

It doesn't. Took some time to research and because canbus system uses the ecu to power the radio on rather than an ignition circuit, the radio will never turn on.

As a result I now HAVE to run a line from an ignition based system to the ignition port of the 8pin dealing with the power, but have hit a new problem, as the UK fiat punto grande mk3 that I have doesn't seem to have the same wiring, and my cigarette lighter doesn't have a red wire for 12v ignition. Instead it has a black, a grey/white and red, and a yellow wire. Not 100% on if the ignition is yellow or grey/ white red, so have to do some more tests to find out, or find someone who knows and can tell me.

On top of this, the ports used on my original stereos wiring loom is not the same as standard places, so I had to get an adaptor to re-rout them all.

There are docs with wiring diagrams on the forum for the cigarette lighter socket. I've uploaded it on my own. If you'd put in the initial post more information on the car you've got, you'd receive a eLearn doc with wiring diagram of the radio installation of your car.

But there are too many possible versions of it available, depending on the year and trim level of the car. If you want get helped, help us help you first :)
