Hello everyone, I have a problem i can't find the answer to, and i hope you can help.

I have a 2009 Panda and have an issue with the speed of the "Fast temporary" position. (Also called "Unstable position" in the Panda handbook)

That's the 'Up' position.....the one when you dont want to turn the wipers fully on but just want to clear the screen once.

Anyway, the problem is on any other car i've had, you push the wiper stalk up and the blade clears the screen 'once' in a nicely controlled manner.

But on my Panda, you push the wiper stalk up and the blade has an action of, "One very very quick clear (Almost taking off) closely followed by one slower clear".

Is there some 'code' (Some way of setting the speed of this position)?

Or does it sound like somethings broken?

Thanks in advance

I think i may have posted this in the wrong part of the forum?.

If so............apologies

Ahhhh, Pandas, they're always out to surprise you. Instead of clicking UP for the manic, let's scrub this screen clear action, go DOWN for the slow wipe, let it do it's thing once and then return the stalk to the "Off" setting. Works for me.

You can control the action of the up position.

If you just flick the wiper arm quickly, it will do a single slow wipe instead of the fast+slow wipe. With a bit of practice, you can even get a single quick wipe with a slow return, if you want that for whatever reason.

But honestly, what's wrong with the fast+slow double wipe? I never had a problem with it.

^^^ Thanks for that (y)

Regarding your question of "Why i dont just use the double wipe"

I live in Scotland, and in Scotland we have a unique form of thin drizzle.

One wipe clears the screen dry, but a second wipe is nothing more than simply an annoying 'squeak' ;)

I can definitely recommend changing to Bosch Aerotwin blades, or even better, a full Fiat 500 wiper arm swap. Much quieter and elegant-looking.

I like the aerotwins. 500 wiper arms sounds like a good idea. Wonder if they corrode as bad as the Panda ones though... Mine look awful.

OP, unfortunately it's something the later Pandas do, just like going onto intermittent if on constant when you stop, however the earlier Pandas do a single swipe on mist wipe mode (the up possition) but don't go onto intermittent automatically when on constant and the car stops.

Fiat and their wisdom.

Excellent, thanks for that.

At least i now know it's 'normal' behaviour and not a problem with my car, I'll find it much easier to live with (y)

After some experimentation, it seems on my Panda that only a flick of the wiper switch gives the one slow wipe. But, holding it 'up' for only a short time, I'd say a quarter of a second, produces the 2 fast wipes.

I thought at first that it was alternating between 2 settings. That said, I DO like the fact that it gives an extra wipe a few seconds later when you've used the washer jets.

Can I also recommend Rain-X or similar as a brilliant way of clearing water from the screen without the need for wipers at all, at least above 30mph. Drove back from Herefordshire late on Saturday night (having bailed out of the most horrendous conditions in the annual 24hr Mountain Mayhem MTB race, but that's another story...) in the hoofing rain without wipers on for most of the journey. Truely remarkable stuff.
