1.2 2001 bravo

the car is now turning over but not firing up

there is a spark, there is compression, however its not firing up??

there are no marks for the timing? is this normal for bravos

i have the lockign tool (1) and its in place, and its level, i have placed 4 wooden dowels/sticks in the spark plug holes and the cam locking tool is in place?

any ideas what is wrong?

If you have compression on the cylinders the timing should also be OK.
Check the fuel and the TDC sensor.

thanks for the reply mate.

unfortunately it doesnt.compression was coming out. although not at the rate i wanted it to

there is definite fule in the car

There are no timing marks on the 1.2. Timing is set as you described. Ensure the camshaft sprocket bolt is tightened before removing locking tool

All done, Hi Sven.

My email is under my username, if you hover over it

sorry didnt check that email account as i have two different ones set up on profile

ive gone through the mnauals..many thanks

its seems to be accordign to the fitment.
i just cannot understand why is doesnt start?

i must state that the timing belt was different to how th manuals states

thsi was becasue when the car was dead
plugs 2 and 3 were still in the car, wheras sparks 1 and 4 were taken out

the reason becasue when taking out the HT Ignition leads the plusg 2 &3 were very stuck, therefore we decided to take out the whoel heads and open and then reove the stuck rubber bungs

i guess this must have caused a misalignment of the timing, as the 4 plugs would not be aligned the same.

so for this reason, the tippex method was use, and lockign tool, the belt was tight to move as well because it felt liek the engine had seized,

so we went ahead with plusg 1& 4 removed whislt 2&3 were stucks

any comments on what to do???
battery is currently on charge

The pistons must all be in the centre of the cylinders. That is why you have the rods and a straight edge to ensure that they are inline. All 4 sparkplugs have to be removed to do this

ok thanks for the response

however when we went to clean the head etc we did manage to remove them in the end
before we start to refit everything

not everything is in palce and the dowels to match up once you align with the locking tool

after dismantling all new plugs, leads, oil fitler etc has been bought and have been refitted.

I am not quite with you re aligning the dowels with the locking tool. After the locking tool is in place slacken the camshaft bolt. Camshaft sprocket is a taper fit on the shaft and will move when tensioning the belt. after tensioning ensure the dowels are aligned. (turn engine slightly if they are not). When you are satisfied, tighten the camshaft bolt. Check dowels again, All ok? then remove locking tool

phew got it working

it was the timing that was out but its now working..
