Hello,

I have a 10 plate grande.

I have to say it's worked floorlessley for the last 4 or 5 years of owning it.

Recently it's been very juddery and the exhaust when driving sounds like it's struggling to get all the fumes out.

Anyway, my car now won't show how fast I'm going, no indicator noise from inside (indicators still working though). No revs, no petrol gauge, no coolant temperature, no warning lights.

Radio shows 'can check'

Car still drives.

Please help. Thanks.

Hi and welcome :)

You have got a problem with an electrical supply circuit..

A common failure is the Black cable on the engine battery...

It connect to the car body..then onto the engine

Over time water gets inside the cable..and the inside goes rotten (n)
So no electrical circuit..

There is a quick and easy test with a 'jumplead: booster cable'

Tell us more.. :)

Petrol or Diesel.. manual or auto ..??

Hello and thank you for replying!!! Really appreciate it.

It's a Petrol 1.4 Automatic.

Is it worth buying some jump leads to test it then? I'd have no idea how to do this or even where to start!

I did take the negative wire off the battery for 30 minutes and then put it back on again but no luck!

What do you think I should do next? I can take it to a garage who deals with electrical side of things but I'm afraid of how much they will charge me.

Dear Jade1993,
There may be a power input problem in the dash meter control console. I have a similar problem but only disturbed is the display screen. All other meters of the console is working normally. You may refer my post:
Some photos also I have uploaded. It is very easy to take the meter console out from the upper side of the steearing. Take it out, check the connections and service the connecting sockets with WD-40 or something like of that. Check the wires and current & voltage output in the terminal by just multimeter or suitable similar device used for it.
I hope it will give you some positive results.
Best of luck.
Give feed-back with pictures of work you do.
Regards.

Hi Jade 1993 :)

There is a lengthy GUIDE on here showing a lot of electrical tests on a Grande..

Including the Cable Test - I will add a link

You dont need anything expensive...
Any garage work is likely to be £50+... so £20 on a set of leads might be a good investment (ask around though.. a lot of people will have some) and on some winters morning may prove invaluable (y)

Being an Automatic... the running issue could be related..

Where are you based?

The forum has a register of people with FIAT diagnostic kit... I have it too

Thanks... I have no direct experience of removing those parts on a Grande..

So have suggested the O.P. tries a simple test 1st

( it just so happens I have yet to have a failed earth cable either... my Grande fault was a corroded connector on the Starter Motor)

I have found the GP to be pretty tough..

My 2012 has been excellent!

One DRL bulb in 9 years and 67,000 miles.. still on the 2012 battery 🛐

GOOD CARS (y)

@jade1993

These are a good example of the style of cable

Do let us know if you need more info..

Or have some news :)

Hi guys. Thank you all for your responses. Today in-between work I will be trying your ideas and suggestions. Keep you all posted. Thank you guys. Really appreciate it. My first forum and I think it's great. Thanks again. Updates coming soon. :)

First:----> Check and replace the earth cable and see the results.
If it work, then fine.... the issue is solved.
If not... then:----> take few pictures of the dash meter console from front of the steering from different direction and upload. Probably I may show you how to open the console.
Regards.
