Hello,

I’m trying to find the correct OEM part number for the steering box on my 2009 Panda 1.2 44kW (originally with factory CNG, now removed due to local regulations).

VIN: ZFA16900001443852

The current steering box is incorrect — the wheels turn too far, and the tires touch the control arms at full lock. The previous owner knew about this but didn’t fix it. Sometimes the steering wheel also ends up slightly off-center after turning fully to one side, but it usually straightens out after a full turn in the opposite direction.

I tried using ePER, but got confused by the many options.

I’d really appreciate it if someone could help me identify the correct part number so I can order the proper box.

Thanks in advance!

As far as I know

All the standard 1.1 and 1.2 with electric power steering racks should fit and work, the part was changed several times during production so different part numbers

The 4x4 and 1.4 are different

The wheels can hit the control arms if the wrong tyres or incorrect wheel offset are fitted

The inner tie rods can wear badly on steering these are replaceable

Elelectrically assisted, or just a manual rack?

Rims are stock steelies with stock spec tyres - 165/70R14

Tie rods doesn't seem to have any play in them so I suspect these are fine...

As far as I know here in the UK only a few 2003/4

1.1 active didn't have EPS

In other countries might be different

What's the height from the ground, vertical through the center of the wheel to the wheel arch

Should be 631mm for the 2wd

It's rare for the rack to fail in this way, the only failure I have seen is stiff and notchy at higher speeds after accident damage

Mine is 1.2 Natural Power and it has EPS.
It was bought new from Italy by my colleague, who later drove it to Estonia and then sold it to me for 300€. It has original 14 inch steel rims with ET35.

To my knowledge the steering box was replaced last summer and that's when the issue started.

I measured the distance from ground to wheelarch - 645mm. I think the NaturalPower(CNG/Metano) version sits a bit higher since it's based on 4x4 body but I might be wrong. There used to be two pressure tank under the belly - one in the RWD shaft tunnel and other under boot floor where AWD model has rear axle differential. I had them removed due to our stupid regulations so now it's just a regular petrol car.

My goal is to just buy oem spec rack with inner and outer rods and get an alignment done and that is it but I'm not sure which parts to order...

Today I asked from my local mechanic to search for the part based on VIN, he agreed to assist and sent me a pic with correct part nr highlighted - 51876163. Can anyone confirm, maybe based on ePER as I can't seem to find correct answer?

As per post 2

Any 2wd petrol LDH EPS rack 2003-2010 is fine

So 51915483 51940138 51876162 51754446 and so on

Or TRW JRM485

But if it's based on the 4x4 chassis and front subframe this could be wrong as the 4x4 uses a different rack and has different front geometry

We don't have compressed natural gas car here

Let me double check

correct appears as the wrong rack has been fitted

Theres quite a few options

And more

There appears to be 5 different racks

None EPS
EPS petrol and diesel
4x4 petrol and diesel and natural power
4x4 1.3 cross

100HP has nylon stops on the steering rack under the rubber boots. You would have to remove the inner control arms (special gripper tool needed) to remove them or add them to a "standard" steering rack. 100HP has an annoyingly wide turning radius. It could probably be OK with thinner "stops", but I never bothered to investigate. From memory, they are like plastic washers about 15mm thick.
