Technical Help engine wont start coolant leak on engine with water running out

i noticed my 1.4 stilo starting to overheat so topped up with water thinking nothing of it then it started cutting out and now it wont start does a mad fast tickticktick and says airbag fail i can leave it 30mins or so it will try turn over once or twice then nothing again and its like the computer keeps resetting itself clock etc flashes n time goes to 0.00 is my engine gubbed, i was checking the relays beside the fusebox and 1 of the long 1s with arm that pulls up to release plugged in underneath look like water has got in or something :bang::bang::bang: have had no luck with fiats at all garage say my cat is gubbed but surely this wouldnt stop it starting or doing the mad electrics thing??????

Any help would b much apreciated as iv been at it for days cleaned the tb inlet and was gona try cleaning the egr valve but cant find it lol

Do you have a cover for the battery fuse/relay board area as is know to cause many electric issues if you have got water damage in there,,you can try drying out the fuse board if it does have water in that you thought you noticed..there is info on that to be found in the guides section..if drying the fuseboard sorts you problem or you see dmaged short burnt areas on the fuse board and have to replace then be worth getting a cover for it .also how is the battery in state of charge.but water in fuse board would be main suspect to check.

Would not go looking any further for your egr valve if you do find it though you deserve a blue peter badge as they are only fitted to diesel JTD engines and as you say above yours is a 1.4 that would be a petrol engine.

hi thanks no i dont have a cover but i will certainly b getting 1 if i get this issue fixed i think its more than 1 problem with the water i noticed coming from right hand side of the engine just below the tb looks clear tho which i think is a good thing, gona try another battery after i jumpstart it to move it out the drive as its not level and murder to work on lol

if no cover then most certainly would advise looking into the fuse board and checking for shorts and anything that looks burnt , I left mine off one day which was big mistake and it shorted a relay on the board , managed to clean it up though, ,,so well worth checking and cleaning up contacts with some fine emery paper, also check the brown D4 connector while your at it which is to back and lower of battery fuse board..plus cleaning eath points is always handy .

You may just have a a split in the hose that caused coolant leak, but a replacemnet hose would be needed, plus any steam could of got in to electrics n fuseboard area

I think you have two unrelated issues here, which need to be dealt with separately.

Overheating/water leak. Find where the water is escaping and fix it. If lucky, that will be all. If unlucky, may have to replace head gasket.

Non-start. Clicking noises, random warnings and clock resetting are common results of a flat battery, but same symptoms arise form poor connections and water ingress into the fuse box, so as well as checking as recommended above, check the main cables from battery positive to the starter and the earth from battery to gearbox and to body. Ensure cable is not broken inside its outer casing, and that all connections are clean. May need a new battery.
