I have a problem with my Stilo 1.9jtd 115 MW (03 plate)

The engine starts as usual with no problems and will idle ok for about five seconds, after this it begins to cough and splutter and then slowly dies and will not restart. If left for twenty mins or so it will re-start and do the same over again.

Also when its on idle it wont rev past about 2000 rpm, dont realy know where to start looking so if anyone can offer a suggestion i would be more than greatful.

diesels are not my cup of tea.. but the first thing to do (as you can get water problems) is to check for that.. and swap your fuel filter (also worth while cleaning your intake and I do believe your EGR valve might be an issue.. though again.. I’ve never had a diesel – use search). If that doesn't help though - get it scanned (bound to be some fault codes with something this serious)

at a guess this will most likely be fuel or fuel system related

what your describing is the same as what i had with a megane a couple of years back .

it was the cat causing it , maybe worth checking

Hey thanks for the advice guys, not got it going yet but will keep trying. Have seen a lot of posts regarding the crank sensor and am starting to think this may be the problem. I know these parts are cheap so is it worth fitting a new one anyway?

Always good to eliminate possibilities and wont do any harm if you did fit it yourself.. ;)

with a fault on crank/cam sensor your car will not start at all, it will also generate an appropriate error msg – get it scanned.. AA have a generic OBDII code reader ;)

Definately sounds fuel related. Crank sensor failure causes it to cut out suddenly.
Have you checked for leaks around fuel rail, also injector leakoff pipes are prone to splitting leaking.

Do Stilos have a lift pump in the fuel tank? Could have failed.

It is definitely not a common problem that we can give a quick answer too.
