I see the Fiat MES software covers Fiat based Jeeps, the wife’s Renegade has started lighting up like faerie lights on fast random
Anybody in the Skipton, Keighley, Colne region able to assist?
I tried stoneacre Cleckheaton but it’s taken them three weeks, and they still haven’t got back to me.
Turin Motors replaced the ERG and then it went back for diagnostics, unfortunately, despite them driving it around for a week, the fault/s didn’t exhibit themselves for them. They cleared the codes, but, as its random different errors, could not diagnose why/where the fault lies…
The faerie lights are back with a vengeance. I’ve looked on the 500X threads and the Jeep and Renegade forums, but to no avail. The closest I got was the ‘gear selector position sensor’, of which there are two, one on the selector and one on the gearbox.
However, this ‘error’ has only just manifested itself in the roll call of randomness, these range from side distance not available to hand brake, tyre pressure not available to traction control, abs not available to throttle
It’s all very weird

I hesitate to suggest battery?? My Bravo lit up like a christmas tree one day. A new battery solved all the pretty lights. I think MES might be a good investment if you have more than 1 car it can read. I now take my mes and show it to any errant Pandas and remind them if they dont behave I will do the Vulcan mind meld with them. Its suprising how many times bad behaviour has stopped by doing this.... They know whos boss now.

It’s had a new battery when the faults/errors started up, I also checked the earths and a mate cleared the codes with his reader (a half decent one but not (manufacturer specific).
I will be investing in a MS based laptop (whilst gritting my teeth) so that I can also invest in the MES package…

With all that lot going on, its something general I suspect. Have you done anything unusual with it, rough roads, pot holes, emergency stops, folding the seats down? Any wheel changes, rummaging under the seats for any reason? Have you tried every electrical component to check it all wors, and all bulbs. Check usual culprits like scuttles and cabin leaks. Good look underneath in case rodents have been at work. Checking ECU plugs and wiggling the wires supplying doors and tailgate. Check all the functions on the cars computer too. MES can read the voltage at the ECU which is useful as a starting point. Ive had troubles with brake switches causing all sorts of issues, and also engine sensors. All this is stabbing in the dark but you can check quite a lot and maybe you may get a pointer. Has said car got towing electrics?

I’ve checked all the obvious, and all our cars have to go offroad, except the 500, good call on the towbar electrics, it’s the one thing I haven’t checked…it wouldn’t be the first time the wife has ‘think I’ve caught something and the abs says not available’…I've literally found a meter and a half of tree jammed underneath before now!

I used to pass scrapyards where the cars were better than the one I was driving
Yes been there done that I got pulled once in a mini van that was falling to bits, which had a ticket tax and insurance and the coppers were laughing that they had seen better scrappers but they couldn't find anything to nick me for

I have mes if you need help, but unfortunatey mum died Wednesday so I'm in a bit of a 2 & 8 at the moment, any other time your welcome but I might be indisposed for a bit as my dad needs me
Sorry to hear of your loss. My brother went just over a year ago - Heart attack so very sudden - It's a very emotional time and it's time that you need to get back on track. My thoughts and best wishes are with you and yours.

Thanks all, I’m going to invest in the MES full package, two jeeps and two fiats, plus family and friends with fiats, alfas, jeeps is making sense when the dealers obviously can’t. I’ll be picking folks brains with all this new fangled electricity…
Being quite competent with an EVO meter only goes so far, without knowing the values of which sensors, solenoids and pins operate at. The last time I did serious work on vehicles equipped was Fiat Coupe, Alfa 164 and Integrale, god I’m getting old

Once you get connected its very easy to follow. It will save you a pile of money.
I asked my dealer to change the rear axle oil yesterday. The man on reception spent at least 5 minutes going on about diagnostics being needed. In the end I asked if they wanted the job or not and he stopped. Not sure what diagnostics there are on the 4x4 system anyway. I must look

Hear hear.

This "diagnostics needed" seems to be the latest "cash cow" which is something the ordinary everyday Joe public knows nothing about and therefore can't judge whether it's either needed or whether a relevant price is being charged. I don't disagree that, when relevant, a good starting point when a vehicle is presented with a problem would be to do a quick check for stored codes but honestly, how much time does that check take? minutes only! and the often "standard" charge bears little relationship to the cost charged. If further action is required as a result of reading the codes then that's another matter.
