Technical Heating problems!

Hello, i'm new to the site and need some help with my newly bought car.

I've purchased a cinq sporting N reg 1996.
The problem is, the car was over heating( showing 120 on gauge) but blowing cold from the heater so i kept topping it up with water as it kept boiling out so i had the thermostat replaced. This seemed to work for a few days but now the heater has started blowing cold again even though the water seems to be staying put and the temperature is staying between 90 and 100.

Can anyone help?

Bleed the system (cold). There are two bleed screws, one by the top up cap for the washers, one on the bulkhead where the heater pipe goes under the carpet to the passenger compartment. Do the first one first, both till nothing but water/anti-freeze comes out.

I've just drove home from work and the temperature went as high as it could but it was still blowing out cold air from the heaters and it was running fine plus there is still water in, it wasn't steaming or eeven smelling hot but i noticed the fan didn't come on! And it has in the past.

Could this be the problem?

I'm having problems again! I had the system bled and it was running fine for 3 weeks, until today! It has started again with the overheating, blowing cold and loosing a little water and the fan has stopped coming on!

Help please any ideas?

Refill and bleed. Check that the top hose to the radiator gets hot all the way along its length. If not, replace thermostat. (There are some non-branded ones out there which seem very prone to failure.)

Check carefully for water leaks with the engine running.

Make sure the fan is operational itself.

yeah as all the above, you need to be making sure that the fan is coming on, in the warm weather the engine needs it to survive

is it using a lot of water?
