Technical  Heater matrix

Today i have raised front of van on ramp. Bleed screw open and res cap off till coolant come through bleed screw.

Got van up to middle temp gauage replaced cap and been left running for last hour temp gauage hasnt moved. Got heat like i havnt had this warm since before replaced matrix housing. Yet passenger van hasnt kicked it!!!

Yet passenger van hasnt kicked it!!!
You mean fan, right? The passenger side fan from the radiator, engine bay?
When outside temp is low, fan doesn't kick in quite quickly. What's the temp there?
Anyway, to be sure, you can test the fans using MES. On 'Actuators' tab you choose the fans and test if they work on every speed. If they do, it's all good there and just outside temp is the reason for fan not kicking in.

Yes meant fan. Temp is 11°c but little windy. My temo control speed switch is also only working on speeds 2 & 4 but think the other two wires look like the got melted a little!

You mean the one inside the cabin? Melted cables are not good, have that fix!
If it is the cabin fan, probably you need to check/ replace its resistor.

Yes have got replacement plug and wires plus resistor to change aswell when i get time. Hoping to get this issue out way 1st before changing that.

50min 29mile trip this morning van was fine. Heating every now and then but not alot. Coolant was at max when i got to work. Was at max 8hrs after i got there. Same journey home pull on drive turn van off check under bonnet and this is going on!

That is a bu**er.:(
No sign of it on the temp gauge?
As @jackwhoo says certainly pointing towards head gasket.:(

Temp gauage went up to middle no quicker or slower then normal and stayed there all journey. Hope its not head as that was replaced december 24. Still be cheaper to get replaced again then new van. As van is part converted work/camper van and got 6 seats in it now.

When head was done in the past was it skimmed/machined flat and block tested for true/flat also, along with a good quality gasket set?
What was the reason for replacement last time, was the fault cured or just the damage?

Head was taken off as result of 2 injectors wasnt working. Injectors removed then engine wouldnt turn over by hand. Removed injectors to find carbon had dropped in. So garage removed engine for better access. Head was taken off 8 valves was replaced as they had a bit of build up. Garage said everthing eles looked good and was flat. Also had new exhaust inlet, water pump and belt was changed, and set of glow plugs aswell.

Then nov 25 lost heating in van drove 500miles back with no heating. Then was told was heater matrix. Drove home from garage and top rad pipe come off. Replace that and then it started bubbling over. Took back to garage (who have done all previous work) and they said it was maybe res cap so they replaced that. I went ahead and removed all dashboard to replace heater unit as matrix is plastic welded in on my 2017. And have a little bit of heat now and them and still this issue.

Do you mean they didn't have the head skimmed?
Seems odd that engine wouldn't turn over just for a bit of carbon, then had to change eight valves.

Head wasnt sent of to be skimmed to my knowledge. I was in garage and tried myself to turn over it would only got 1/4 way either way then stop. Yes there was a bit of carbon build up under the valves that i seen myself aswell.

Any marks on the pistons etc.? It seems their diagnosis was a little lax maybe, if you have had heater matrix and other stuff changed and vehicle still had issues. What you are mentioning wouldn't fill me with confidence.

The problem started last November.
The coolant cap shouldn't have to open under normal operation unless coolant filled to top of tank.
Heater matrix and coolant cap look like red herrings to me.

No marks on pistons all that work was carried out then almost a year later all this new issue started.
