Technical Headlight options for better night driving

Hi

I have a 2012 fiat punto pop (5dr 1.2L) and the headlights really aren't cutting it at night time.

What are my options? From my googling I've now heard of xenon, HID and halogen but really don't understand the basics.

I know basically nothing about cars and need advice.

I had exactly same problems with a 2008 Scudo. Tried lots of alternatives , but eventually bit the bullet and put an LED light bar. The relay connections were already present so only needed to connect 2 wires and screw the bar in place. Amazing the difference . It's like driving in daylight. Good luck .
