The bad news is, as far as I can work out from my Haynes manual, the bulb is integral with the switch and cannot be renewed seperately. So you'd have to change the switch
First up, I'm a long time reader, first time poster.
Second, I know this thread is over a year old, but when I searched for information on this subject there was no definitive answer.
Third, you can fix the light:
You need a small flathead screwdriver (or a small prising tool)
A soldering iron
A new bulb - Maplin have them: BT43W
You need to unplug and take the unit out of the car.
Remove the front face plate (the bit with the picture of a light going up and down)
Now take the outer sleeve off. This is held on by a sort of snap-fit.
You will now see the wheel, a green bit of plastic, and the light.
Don't bother trying to take the wheel out completely. Instead, just lift up one of the clamps that hold it in place (only one side will move easily - where the wheel is hollow).
With some manouvering you can now remove the green plastic. This will allow access to the light.
Prise the light out of its holder.
You have two choices - 1) neatly unsolder the wires, or 2) snip the wires as close to where they are soldered as possible. It all depends how many hands you have.
As in the best Haynes tradition, refitting is the reversal of removal.
Take care not to melt too much plastic when soldering in the new bulb.
I guess you could change the colour of the display by fitting a LED as JonnyBoy suggests. You would need to leave out the green plastic though, and make sure the LED is 12v.
