Technical Head question

It will fit, but the only problem is that the 95' head doesnt have the drive pin or cam on the end of the camshaft to run the mechanical fuel pump. It still has the mounting points though. You can mod the 95' head for the drive pin and swap the camshafts or use an electric fuel pump. There is a guide on modding the head here

Thank you for the very quick reply.

I want to fit the head off my 1000 CL onto my 1000 CLX which has direct ignition and single point injection, so it has an electronic fuel pump.

That should be fine, although I'm not sure what you would do with the mechanical pump, I suppose you could just leave it on, but if you took it off you would need to block up the oil way to the pump. I presumed you wanted to fit the CLX head to the CL.

Assuming everything else is fine I'll just remove the fuel pump and replace it with a blanking plate.

Do I need to swap the camshafts, or are they the same profile?

Does anyone know if a Panda 1100 head gasket set and stretch bolts will fit a 1000 Fire engine?

From what I can find out both engines have a 70.00mm bore, I'm guessing the waterways etc are the same on both units.

Someone offered me an 1100 head gasket set complete with bolts for £19, the cheapest I've found for the 1000 (999) is nearly double that.

Better to play it safe I quess.

I'm trying to order a head gasket set for my Panda and the supplier needs the engine code.
Would someone kindly confirm the engine code for my Panda please.

Thank you

I'll get the gasket set for the 141A, that way if I end up with a problem with the older head and have to repair my original one I'll have the correct set. Thanks for the advice.

AFAIK the really early 999 FIRE heads were higher compression than later on.

I don't have the books any more to confirm my half remembered suspicion (might be in the back of an early Haynes?), but you can't easily do much with the timing on an injected Panda if it pinks.

The issue probably goes back earlier than '86. Anyone look it up, please?

My original memory probably dates from concerns about 4 star and the change to unleaded.

Although the valve seats were always up for unleaded, ISTR that UL was effectively 3star and prone to pinking, by comparison with 4 star.

Or something like that.

Unfortunately I don't have access to a Haynes manual so I can't check out your concerns.

So far the head and block have been skimmed, the valves have been decoked and reseated. The oil and waterways have been checked and cleaned. I've kept the valves and used the camshaft from the 95 head which will be checked and adjusted accordingly.

Thank you for your message.

Does anyone know of a 1000 CLX (single point injection) being broken?

I'm after the crankshaft pulley, crankshaft pulley bolt and timing (camshaft) belt cover.

My replacement cylinder head is off a 1988 Panda 1000 CL, do you think it will suffer from the issues you have mentioned?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm ready to fit it and don't want to waste time and a head gasket set if it's not going to work.

Thanks in advance

maybe your best shot is PM to PandaMark.

He bought all my old Panda parts, including 2 Haynes manuals (old and new), a Porter manual, and a cylinder head off an injected CLX.

Quite what he has sold, and what he still has, only he would know.
