Ive been quoted £300 for the replacment of the head gasket on my mk1 55 punto. Do you guys reckon this is a fair price or should i look elsewhere for a better price?

Part + Labour that is pretty cheap, although a lot cheaper if done yourself. There are guides on here somewhere.

Right, i shall ask for a breakdown of the quote to see whats included; im hoping they will replace the other gaskets such as the rocker cover since that definatly needs doing too.

I would do it myself but i dont really want to screw anything up, plus i dont have a garage and the best range of tools :/

Cheers guys.

it should say head gasket kit. that includes all top end gaskets an valve seals, also a skim and new bolts is a must. for that price it should also include
cam/timing belt kit
oil
oil filter
plugs
coolant
water pump

Well today i'll be ringing all the local garages for quotes because i defiantly need it doing before im back at work. I'll make sure that i get all of them in the quote.

Also, why would i need a new water pump when doing the job?

The whole point of a headgasket kit is that it replaces all possible causes of the failure just to be safe, the last thing you want is to put a new headgasket and bolts etc on for the pump to die the week after, or at least I would imagine that is why!

Hey guys,

I went into another garage today for another quote, at first it was £230 but then i asked if everything was included (oil, oil filter, coolant and possibly a timing belt) so the guy did some more looking on the pc and he said that he would do everything for £275 including timing belt.

It sounded like a good price to me so i got it booked in for the work; i shall pop in during next week to ask for them to add a water pump, hopefully it'll be around the £300 mark.
