Redex

Daz, Redex will do next to nothing for your engine. You're better off using engine flush - which is basically Mr Muscle for cars. Most modern fuels (appart from the cheap supermarket pap) are a lot cleaner than you may think. I wouldn't bother using it on a petrol engine. Use the flush...

Re: Redex

Cheers Chris, i'll probably do that, as i was looking through some of my car manuals (generic, not for a specific car), and i came across this.

"All engines are subject to contamination from the fuel that they burn. The two major problems, varnish in the fuel flow and carbon build-up in the combustion chamber, are like a cancer constantly increasing in size. They rob your engine of fuel economy and performance and greatly increase exhaust emission levels.

Varnish is the name given to the sludge build-up in fuel lines, filters, injector rail and injectors (or carburettors). This sludge causes a restriction in fuel flow to injectors and drastically reduces the performance of the vehicle.

The solution is a complete fuel system cleaning which will remove both the varnish from the fuel system and injectors and the carbon build-up from the valves and combustion chamber."

All comments welcome as usual..

.

This almost sounds like a potentiometer issue, but as Tom indicated, I would normally expect the warning light to be on - unless its been disconnected! Does it light up when you first put the ignition on?

I wouldnt bother making too much effort on it if you are having the cambelt done in 500 miles time - they have got to pull it all part anyway, take the engine out and disconnect the potentiometer.

Re: Re: Redex

Hehe!! You actually want carbon in the combustion chambers, it provides some insulation and keeps the hot gasses from cooling too quickly.

Someone discovered that his brand new engine actually got more powerful after a few 100 miles due to the carbon.

If you've ever tried cleaning carb parts, you will know that the varnish is near impossible to get off even with some quite evil chemicals.

Redex and the like are for idiots and hellfords employees.

Re: .

It looks to me like it is a pot problem as it would make the engine think you are not accelerating and not give the required fuel boost.

As he said it gets better when cruising that would indicate that it thinks the throttle is shut.

Re: Re: .

Yes the light comes on when i turn on the ignition, and for 1-2 after the car is started then it goes out.

I believe this is right.

Thanks for all your comments

Re: Re: Re: .

The other thing i have noticed, which i'm not sure is right, when the ignition is on, if you listen to the engine, there is a whining noise, sort of like a pump?

Is this normal on a 155?

Re: Re: Re: Re: .

Yeah, its your fuel pump :)

I think your throttle pot is playing up, Nige, where did you put your instuctions on how to fix it?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: .

If you can get some instructions, that would a huge help.

I think i might ditch my Bravo, and go back to using my pushbike, it was faster...lol

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: .

Mind you, my bike is quiker than most things...lol
