Hi
We've had our new Panda a few weeks now and THB i'm a bit miffed its not got remote locking. :( When I test drove one it had remote locking so I didn't think to question it. [I think it was a 1.2]
Has anyone retro fitted it to a 1.1? I once fitted a remote system to a Toyota Estima MPV but with very detailed instructions from the Forum! The main thing i'd like is a better way to open the boot than using the key!
Cheers Gareth :)

We fell for the same trick.. we were shown a panda but obviously a different spec... we asked if ours had central locking and yes it did.. It never crossed our mines to say "remotely ?" .. yes we have central locking but only with the key and you can't do it from the boot or the passenger side so it can be a pain if you want to go in the passenger side to get something from the glove compartment or if you are dropping off a passenger and they want something from the boot so you have to stop, turn it off and go to the boot with the keys...

Re the boot, It would be OK if it had a button or lever in the cab to pop the boot open, [even or Cinqcecento had that!] I suppose most models have the remote though....:(

Well, thats put the mockers on it!
We have CAN systems in our buses at work, the manuals say things like, " You throw a switch, witchcraft happens & the thing works"!!
It was a nice idea though!

Re. the boot again I've just filled the lock with 3in1 oil , it was so stiff to push the key in & out, its better now but not perfect :(

I'd have taken it to the dealer to sort.

One advantage with the boot on the Active is it doesn't have that silly Micro Switch to go wrong like the other Spec Panda's do :p (y)

They don't (n)

I looked into it but gave up as its not a simple 'lock' and 'unlock' signal that turning the key does as the central locking is CAN operated (n)

Yes they do... but you need the proper fiat alarm kit for non remote locking cars, it includes the necessary to make the locking remote with the alarm fob.

The kit without the extra bits is about £130 from memory but wouldn't have thought it would add that much to the price.

No longer available for the Panda when I check Feb 2009. Only alarms available from Fiat for them are factoy fit iirc.

I looked into it because I had the options brochure wit part numbers from 2004/2005. Parts chap looked and said that they're no longer available (n)

You could possble be a very decent after market alarm professionally installed, but for £400-£500+. Question is how desperate are you for RCL I suppose.

Hi Guys.
Its not worth £4-500 to me! I was looking at the price of the 1.2, over a grand more , but you get more toys & the MPG figures look better.........perhaps I made a rushed decision?

Why didn't I take it to the dealer...?
Its a 3 hour 100 mile round trip!!!;)

If you have a general alarm fitted by a specialist they can make your central locking operate by remote. Not sure about the boot though as thats not part of the central locking system. You will also have to check with Fiat because it could invalidate your warranty. I was looking to do this with my old car and I could have had a basic Toad alarm fitted for about £100.

I fancied the extra toys on the Dynamic model but funnily enough I only like the seats on the Active Eco and 100 BHP. I cant stand brightly coloured seats but I am just funny that way.

I believe the issue is that the active has no locking motor in the drivers door so even if you get the CAN to lock/unlock the drivers door wouldn't ?
The only solution I can think of is to add an after market motor to the drivers door and using a central locking relay from another car wire it to an alarm.
The alarm would lock/unlock the drivers door and then the CAN would lock/unlock the rest ?

It could be possible for the boot issue be fixed by using a solenoid to open it from a switch mounted somewhere out of view, maybe inside the glovebox where it won't get pressed accidently ?

I was thinking of also a remote locking kit to replace the key in door one. One I found on ebay (item number 180466646102) also includes taking your metal key part out and putting in remote central lock fob and it flicks out thereby making it all in one.

Anyone has any views on using this

Well, it might have made some sense to check the spec so you knew exactly what you are getting. The dynamic is worth the extra money IMO.

Yes I know that now! TBH I doubt we'd have gone for a 1.2 unless the MPG saving would have covered the extra finance costs.
I never thought to question if it had remote locking as I didn't think any car came without it! The car I test drove was two years old & that had remote locking so I assumed mine had.
I've never bought a new car before & when you buy second hand you always see the car you are buying.
Lesson learnt

1. Shoping remonte central lock(ci+alarma) ..........
2.Shoping fiat panda door lock kit for driver's door (foto 1)...71802681
3.to replace motor with 5 wire(foto 3) with foto 1(y)
