where have you looked?

Ebuyer.

www.ebuyer.com go for a samsung or something maybe? Spinpoint F1 and the like are pretty good. I have got 2 in a RAID in my machine, they should be pretty cheap for 1TB as well, 2TB drives are still quite new, so will pay a fair amount for them

Currently looking at this. Any thoughts?

I looked at that this website and found the same one here.

What does this mean?
MAX.500GB Formatted Capacity Per Disk

That should be fine, I have two of the F1 type (Previous model) and they are still going strong :)

Max formatted means something different due to bits and byte differences, its because manufacturers say 1GB = 1000MB (500GB = 500GB) and Microsoft/OS versions see it as 1GB = 1024 MB (Manufacturer 500GB = 488GB Microsoft)

When you format in say windows, you "lose" a proportion of the disk size for Master File Tables, so the "488"GB drive will be about 475 or something, my 1TB drive is something in the region of 950-960GB im pretty sure due to the overheads and different conversions.
