Handbrake t and rear wiper trouble

Firstly I think the ratchet or something on my handbrake has loosened/broken. It still works but i do not trust it. Whilst on my drive it released itself a couple of hours after being parked and my bravo rolled into the middle of the road. Someone knocked on my front door to let me know!

Any diagrams or step by step guide to fixing a handbrake will be appreciated as I am a novice and have not attempted this yet.


Secondly, my rear wiper does not remember the stop position, it just turns on and off. This happens when i use the washer aswell. Is this a common problem and how do i fix it.

Incase you need to know(you probably dont) its a 2000 1.6 trofeo

get a replacement from your dealer or the desira group.

you're not one of these that yak the handbrake on without pushing the button are you?

also, check that the button spring is good on the button

How much will a new one cost?? I am one of those people that just yank it up. I know thats what broke it, but i have now learnt my lesson and will be much nicer to my new one. I've been having to leave the car in gear at the moment, is there anything wrong with doing this?

i dont know how much, but ring your dealer for a price, then contact the desira group. the last time i used them, they lowered the price for me to beat the dealers price including postage!

there's nothing wrong with leaving it in gear. they usually say, if your car is facing downhill, leave it in first. if its facing uphill, leave it in reverse.

erm other way round, uphill = first, downhill = reverse. always oposite to your facing, turn your wheels to the kerb too. when I was younger i had a triumph acclaim which had no handbrake for 6 months, taught me some spot on clutch control

and in which direction is your engine going to turn if it moves and you do it that way?

the idea is your engine wont turn to stop you rolling
