Hello Everyone,

I have just signed up but have used the advice on here a few times for problems with my car, only this time I can't find a clear answer!

You'll have to bare with me on this as I am not a car person at all!

Anyway last night the handbrake cable snapped on my car at the traffic lights, kind of freaked me out a bit but got it home and have a concrete block on the brake pedal, left it in gear and have blocks on the wheels.

I have read on here it is common... I think... but I can't find info on how its replaced or anything, nearly every post about handbrake's says to look in the handbrake sticky and I can't find it :shrug:and I don't have one of them Haynes books or anything.

Sorry this is probably making no sense, the car hasn't been loved by previous owners, and within two months of getting it had to have a new radiator and exhaust... anyway I am getting side tracked!

If anyone knows what I am on about any help would appreciated, my other half fitted the new radiator and exhaust so is hoping to this too as we can't afford to take it to the garage!

Being 6 months pregnant I need my car asap lol :eek: :)

If your other half can fit the radiator and exhaust then he will be able to do the handbrake cable one handed!!

It is quite straight forward to do just a faff, cables are less than 20 quid even from Fiat, make sure you get the right one for the car as there are a couple of different types iirc

Thanks for replying!

My other half isn't mechanically minded so I do panic a bit when he touches my car... he has never even driven a car in his life lol but he can follow instructions really well, did the radiator after some instructions over the phone and after looking on here, the exhaust he did at my sisters (her husband used to be a mechanic) but he basically told him what to do and left him to it while he changed the brake pads on my sisters car so I do think he will be able to do it!!

I'll get searching for the part/parts, I just want my poor little car fixed

Here is the FAQ.

The cable itself is easy: two split pins, a few clips which need to be opened with a screwdriver, and the adjusting bolts (2x13mm) and mechanism.

All the adjustment on these cars is done from underneath the car.

It's a good idea to lubricate the inside of the cable before it goes on: motorcycle chain lube is best, but any spray grease will do.
