I'd be spending nearly 70 quid to fill the 2.0 Vectra with petrol every two weeks...eeeek!

And...

I'd still be driving a Vectra, bleurrghhh!

Panda is in for service today, will update the service costs thread later :D

Yup, put £72.50 in my vectra this morning, and did the same amount on Monday.

When I first filled the Panda up I thought the pump was broken when it stopped at £32!

At 51mpg you are getting 10 more than I get in a diesel Vectra too!

I'm getting about 4mpg better in a 1.1 Panda Eco than my old 2.0 diesel Vectra. I'd hoped for better, but at least the Panda's heater works in winter :)

Fuel is only going to get more expensive too

If I hadn't sold my Coupe 20V Turbo, instead of paying just over £30 each week, I'd be paying about £60 every 4 days!

When I used to ride my scooter it would cost me around £5.00 or £6.00 to fill the tank on that.

This is another reason why the cooper s went too, driven nicely it did 28mpg, driven properly it did 20tops, hitting an all-time low when it did 11mpg on a full tank at a track day!!

I shudder to think what my 406 would cost to fill up with its 70 litre tank of diseasel.

500 takes 42 litres so still isn't cheap but it'll do 500 miles on that whereas the 406 would do 630 on 70. An extra 30 or so litres for only 130 more miles!

I used to drive a 2.4 Stilo, £20 of fuel in - about 90 miles in return, maybe less ...

We also used to have a Fiat Ulysse 2.2 Diesel - I seem to recall it costing just around £90 to fill up back in the day!!! Plus the economy got killed on the school run

Anyone else here lament loosing the days when you could fill up for £20 pr less (and I'm only talking 15 yr ago here)

I remember thinking 100 mile to a tenner was ok, and that was in a 3ltr Carlton!

Wonder how long until we all have 1.4 or less engine sizes.....

Petrol was around 54p per litre (had just changed from gallon prices IIRC) when I started driving in 1989. Choice of 2, 4 and 5 star plus unleaded.

I really hope the day of having to drive around in a 1.4 litre for economic reasons never arises. It would be a sad time for all.

I admit I'm looking forward to going back to a 200bhp or so car again after this one.

It was 53.9 when I passed my test, how things change.

Think I will be sticking to diesel in my other car from now on (30k a year and petrol doesn't work) I will miss the hit from big power petrol though.

According to a site I looked at, it was 38.4p per litre when I passed my test. I don't quite remember it being that cheap, though thinking about it cost was in the 40p's per litre.

I'm still missing the hit from big petrol power, think I need to go back to it and suffer the costs for a bit!

around 45p a litre when I passed in 1991...

better hurry up and go back before the petrol runs out :)

Fuel prices will keep going up and up. It will be £2 a litre before 2015.

Electric cars will be the only answer but it will be another ten years before we have charging points in most stations.

Still even the leaf takes 20 minutes to charge in one of those stations and does about 100 miles per charge. That is going to be a major issue.

The bottom lise is if we all use less petrol then prices will come down. Are you listening you yanks?

Absolutely! There was a big fuss when the £1/litre mark was reached and again another media interest when it last peaked at around £1.20/litre.

It was just over 10 years ago when the last real action was taken against high prices. Forget the tuition fees, let's get the fuel prices down!

When I started driving petrol was about 50p a gallon...thats 11p a litre, a pint of beer was about 16/18p a pint, but then again hourly pay was 80p, so really petrol is cheaper now as an average of 30/35 mph was good, even in my old 62 mini van which at the time was about 12 years old petrol consumption was now where near what is acheivable now, not to mention how much oil was consumed. I had a 1200 Anglia 105....think Harry Potter..around town was about 28mph, my 100hp will beat that hands down. My daughters Panda Mamy will easily achieve 50mph on a run, even 60mph is not immpossible.
