OMG!!!!

Was wondering if it would be cheap it is to buy JUST the fuel rail from fiat. Not the injectors or even the regulator, JUST the alu tube.

Check out the cost on the picture......how on earth can they charge that!!!!!

Hi mate, sorry to hear you had issues, but I did warn you the intake was far too big, hence why we didn't use it and used a 1.2 intake. :(

The injectors will not work either you need older style Bosch injectors, we used 2L MG Maestro injectors, again because they were "in stock" and Jon got them flow tested at work to ensure they were flowing correctly and up to the job which we knew they would be. :)

Those newer style piezo injectors are not going to sit correctly in the intake manifold, we did look at it and decided it wasn't going to work as the injector head does not go far enough into the intake to make them work correctly. Plus they will not seal correctly, not a good idea on injectors, so best when you're at scrappy to get some fuel injectors off any suitable car, with you using Megasquirt not really a problem which type you get. :D

Again like you we didn't have a correct fuel rail, but again were lucky we had a Bosch fuel rail from some unknown source that the injectors lined up perfect all it needed was the fixing points modified, it was a matter of making up some wooden ones then getting some alloy welding done to replicate them, all nice and neatly done so looks factory.

Good luck with the bolts IIRC are they not a funny size, like M7 not exactly common?

Again as always, need any help then ask, or pop down for a look, will be about Fri afternoon & Sat as going to AutoSport show on Sun.

Aaron.

Right, a semi-wasted day today, but a good result in the end :)

Popped to fiat to get the 1.2 inlet gasket, and my exhaust gasket (y)

Then went to a cylinder head specialist, looking for bolts. They are 7mmx1mm pitch but finding those was not easy, he didn't know any other cars that use this size, but pointed me to a fixings supplier about 20 miles away. Off to them, and it was an amazing place. SO run down, massive, and just full of nuts, bolts and washers! They had had an order of 200,000 6mm bolts i was after just that morning. I had to trim the 7mm to length but all was good :)

Went to my only local scrapyard, no fuel rails :(

Set about bolting on the intake, and trying to mount the panda fuel rail. The injectors did seem to seal fine  but i couldn't make a decent enough bracket to secure it. Last thing i wanted was for it to come loose!

I had another look at the bay, and relised what i thought was the bulkhead, was a bolted on plastic shelf the supports the sound damping. Off it came, and it looked promising (y)

1.2 manifold off, 1.4 on, and it fits :worship: (y)

its a bit close to the heater box, but if it contacts, i can head and reform it, cut and glass it, or many other options :)

Pretty pleased, but same i was money on the gasket, bolts, and a lot of time!

Heres some pics of it :)

I also had my new rad, selena oil and ariel bracket arrive (y)

The old rad has seen better days and had been leaking for a few weeks!

Exhaust is all back together now as well :)

Its all looking good, though i'm getting a bit tiered of it all now lol

I need to mount the crank sensor, and then its time to plumb it all back together.

Thanks for all you input Aaron (y)

Cheers,

Kristian

Glad its coming along, though you will now get all the engine smells/fumes inside the cabin and extra noise as that's what the panel is for. Plus of course it loses the factory look to the install, but know that's not really a priority for you as it was for us.

If you look at those injectors the O ring to seal is very near the tip, older style Bosch injectors the O ring is much further up the injector to ensure the spray of fuel is in the air flow, hence why using new style injectors in an old style fuel rail doesn't work, also the way they secure is different, but that's by the by now as you have used all matched system. :D

I'm used to the smells, and increased noise is barely noticeable. I used to run without it most of the time.

I certainly looks messier though as you say but i'm not too fused about that :D

i can get round the smell issue if i need to by finding out where the air inlet to the fan is, and directing it via a tube. tbh though i love the smells you get :D

Wow havn't checked on this for a few millenia!

Looking good! As prementioned the engine seems to move a hell of a lot underload so make sure more than enough clearance on inlet etc..

I reckon it'll be running by mid next week, u seem to work pretty fast.

I should think it will push well over 100bhp no problems. We'll have to meet up when its done and i've finished for this term, like next month. I'd like to see it.

Good luck with the rest of it, you seem to have much more clue than me so all good.

Lol no rush, in your own time. Get that engine sorted!

Not sure on power tbh, I would imagine power wise will be pretty similar, but I expect yours will have the edge in torque,as this is much harder to boost without forced induction or the like. It was about 93lb last time it went on r/r. Although since then have fitted manifold etc. When mine goes on rollers next month will be more sure.

I should think yours will be around or over the 100 lb mark in this aspect so pretty impressive and a lot of fun, thats the main thing!

Made a bit of progress but taking it easy :D

95% of the cooling is back together, bumper and headlight back in :D

DSC00137.JPG DSC00138.JPG

Some of the cooling linked up. Notice the 1368cc thermo. It had three outputs for cooling. A tiny one (remove for after market temp sender (y)), heater output (shown), and main rad connection. Plus thats where a stock temp sender sits as well :D

DSC00139.JPG

This is the only bit of cooling to do, the heater core connections. It a bit trickier now i've removed the support bracket, as i can't put much strain on them. however, trip to factors for some more hose and connectors should sort it (y) :

Tonight I'm modifying the megasquirt to drive the 4 separate Coil On Plugs.

If anyones curious, they are plain coils with no igniter, so need a coil driver to fire them :) .. .well, 4 coil drivers, something at least the Emerald system can't do in case anyone was considering it.

Then the only other job it to make this throttle body adapter, but looks tricky and a lot of work, so i may see how much it would take to have one machined up!

Enjoy :)

Kristian

//edit - the gearbox does stick out a lot further into the arch :D I get centre to full lock in 1.75 turns....no chance to turn the unrestricted way, as i had a jack in the way. I will update on this :)

Well I was g-teching 0-60 at about 8.5 on the 1.2 16v

this is not as loose yet though, and no lightened flywheel, but with the extra power at least the same, hopefully closer to 8. However, once its on road, i'll have a chat with arc ;) and do some more runs :D

Gearing may help, or maybe hinder the 0-60

my 1242 thread in my sig is a good read if you haven't already.

Costs of this swap are low. Just engine/box, and some minor parts.

Costs of the first conversion were large. Custom exhaust, new manifold, engine, intake ..yada yada. Never tallied prices as it would depress me lol, but you may get an idea from the other thread by adding a few numbers and adding on a lot more :D
