General GSR Induction Kit Question

The ECU you have got has got a hardware number with a processor that is known to corrupt the software the earlier or the later. The later versions have a different processor, which doesn't do this. What we are going to do is to get a new ECU as a backup and will use it in case the ECU locks up when trying to update the software. We had a few cases of this but not all. If we do not need the ECU because it is not or not yet affected, we put it back in the dealer stock.

If the ECU should pack up at a later point we do map the new one for free since you had the map done already with us.

which punto hgt's can you map pete?? year from when?

nice one peter, glad i spoke to you earlier aswell :)

talk to you on wednesday for our meeting! looking forward dude (y)

Just spoke to Norwich Union, the guy doesn't seem to know what he's talking about, or maybe I don't.

I tried to explain what an induction kit is (as I understand it anyway). And he asks, so it's to turbocharge or supercharge the engine right?

Me: "Er, no, it's a 1.4 Sporting, there's no supercharger or turbo."

Him: "So what's it for?"

Me: "Just to give a sportier sound on the engine and I think slightly boost the fuel economy too" (Hehe).

Him: "So it's fuel injection right?"

Me: "No, it just improves the flow of air into the engine"

Anyway.. I might be wrong.. my knowledge of engines and the rest is pretty limited, but I think we got there in the end.

£61.80 slapped onto the premium if I go for it.. (n)

I would go back to them and tell them that this is a bit steep for something you can't even see when the bonnet is shut.

And maybe you should call it air intake revision. It will improve fuel consumption etc.

And don't forget to report the conversation. It makes funny reading when the 'specialists' need to be educated. Just rub it in.

the guy got a clue, tell em its an open air airfilter, see if that gets his brain cells going:confused:

hate NU, they wanted 4500 for me to insure my stilo, and toldme they wouldnt cover mods:bang::bang::bang::bang:

Yeah they wanted £4200 back when I had my 1.2 ELx 16V.. wouldn't mind, but I only paid £3000 for the car at the time!

Maybe I'll ring back and see.. maybe the person I speak to will know this time..

Yeah it seems to be the same "air fuel injection" is what they have on their system. She said the description is "Improves flow of air into engine for greater efficiency with modest increases in performance". Increase in 10% of premium, so £61.85.

I tried to bargain with her. I said it's a small engine, the increases in performance are negligible, but she wasn't having any of it.

Tell her to get f***ed and your not fitting it. Then fit it anyway  :p

Well yes, but that would void my policy so I would never do that.

*ahem*

Just out of curiosity, how easy are these kits to remove and put the original back in? From what I've seen from pics the engine cover has to come off to fit the GSR kit?

Easy to fit. You can leave the 'engine cover' which is the airbox btw in situ and just remove the OEM air intake pipe. then all you have to do is remove GSR kit and fit the OEM pipe.

Ah ok.. I didn't realise it was the airbox.

So this pic is just of installation in progress? Wouldn't the airbox need to be put back afterwards? Or would the induction kit mean there's no need?

Sorry, I really don't know very much about this stuff.

Yes the airbox has been removed in that pic. You don't have to remove it though.

Here is mine I also removed the airbox:-
