General Grill in the heater control cluster

Please can you tell me what is the grill in the centre of the heater controls? I want to cover it up with my sat nav mount. Is it a vent? hands-free speaker?

Measuring interior temperature. In use with climate control, but not for manual AC I thought.

Correct - if you have auto climate control (push buttons for temp etc and digital displays), then a very small fan draws air in through that grille over a sensor to regulate the temperature. Not used for manual air con or if no air con., so can cover. The mic for hands-free is by the interior light above the rear view mirror.
