General GP MPG - What are YOU getting?

56 GP 1.2/8v Active 5dr 29.8K miles ... from 27K to 29.8K (Apr09-Jun09) achieving 53 (+/-2) mpg on 95RON ASDA(Conoco).

Q. What is the source of this "c*ap" supermarket fuel?

Caravadossi

Mainly personal opinions and recent press reporting. And as I'm sure you will agree, the mpg figures speak for themselves on my previous post! I have had a 1.2 gp as a loan car after i was crashed into and it would run well on tesco fuel hard to notice a difference in performance. Other cars I have had have ran like dogs on supermarket fuel, this mainly applies to a 2003 megane i had.
Anwer your question???

my 1.4 16v gp used to average 38mpg. then i fitted a gsr induction kit and it dropped to 32 but its well worth it for the noise :)

I average about between 51-55 in my 1.3 mjet 90bhp. I do have the air con and stereo on nearly all the time too.

Opinions? I tend to side with Dirty Harry on subjective `opinions’ & generally waste no time reading about them. But I’m prepared to consider `objective opinions’ backed-up by referenced authorities.

Mpg figures? A little shy on data – basically not enough. But I’ll take a look at them later.

1.2 v 1.9Mjet Sport? Not sure what you’re getting at here. Presumably you compared a 1.2 petrol (Tesco) with your 1.9Mjet Sport (V-Power) & found it “hard to notice the difference in performance”? I believe you may have lost some credibility there.

53 Megane? Perhaps best to set-aside that - given the £8K+ rectification work & your comments of “even more rubbish” than your 55 Astra “heap of junk.”

Answer? No – we’re none-the-wiser regarding the source of your supermarket fuel.

it depends what fuel I use. I'm a firm believer that supermarket fuel is c*ap. If i'm using v power diesel I get around 51mpg comined (car only started to get this mpg after 15000 miles, normal shell diesel 43-44 and tesco 40. When on tesco fuel I find the car sluggish and smokey therefore have to push the car more to get the same performance. I can never believe the diference in the figures!

I’m a firm believer too. Engines & fuel have an association – they are not exclusive. The engine is designed for the fuel in my handbook. Substituting a higher spec of fuel will not result in more power – without adjusting the engine for the change in higher compression, later burn etc. Simply high spec engines are designed for high spec fuel.

Difficult to make much from the one set of data you provide. But prima facie your figures are hardly small incremental changes. You submit that Shell diesel at 44mpg gives a 10% better result than Tesco diesel at 40 mpg. Then V-Power supposedly improves mpg by a further 16% from 44 to 51mpg. Simply by substituting V-Power for Tesco – then you appear to claim that mpg is improved by over 25%. However I suspect many would question your figures - & the methodology you used to arrive at them.

How did you arrive at your figures?

yeah I have (y) lmao, i don't know whether to believe it or not tbh...I can sometimes squeeze 300 to a tank if i'm rlly rlly good lol

300 to a tank! I got over 400 my last tank :p Did 230 mile on half a tank

Just read this :ROFLMAO:

erm my worst has been i believe 64 miles and nearly empty.

thats 3 trips to dudley and back (10 mile each way), to my bass lesson and back.

That means sweet FA carl when you dont say how much fuel you used.

erm ok i have no idea.
