General GP MPG - What are YOU getting?

1.3 Mjet 90 now with 35,000 miles - average 49mpg. If I'm real careful (granny mode) I can get high 50s, if I push it I get 44 mpg.

Thinking of getting the new 1.6 Mjet sporting...

That's not too good for a small light car, is it. It's funny how a large car with a 2.00 Diesel can get the same results.

The sooner Multijet 2 comes out the better I'd say.

I get about 45-50 from my Doblo 1.9 by the way.

you must all drive like grannys to get these figures!

Just done 2.7 k at 48 mpg. Not crawling around but driving to work, A road mostly, B road, some motorway and town centre driving. Have the tunes on and enjoying the cash that I save by not driving like McRae. :)

Opinions? I tend to side with Dirty Harry on subjective `opinions’ & generally waste no time reading about them. But I’m prepared to consider `objective opinions’ backed-up by referenced authorities.

Mpg figures? A little shy on data – basically not enough. But I’ll take a look at them later.

1.2 v 1.9Mjet Sport? Not sure what you’re getting at here. Presumably you compared a 1.2 petrol (Tesco) with your 1.9Mjet Sport (V-Power) & found it “hard to notice the difference in performance”? I believe you may have lost some credibility there.

53 Megane? Perhaps best to set-aside that - given the £8K+ rectification work & your comments of “even more rubbish” than your 55 Astra “heap of junk.”

Answer? No – we’re none-the-wiser regarding the source of your supermarket fuel.

Caravadossi
I think your missing the point of my opinion.

Scientific justification regarding this humble personal opinion is irrelevant.
What I was saying is that regardless of fuel quality I found that the 1.2 (despite being a fine car) had too little power to notice any significant difference in performance. I am not comparing it to my mjet to a 1.2 as there is simply no comparison. The megane had been badly damaged by the tesco silicone in fuel scandal of 2007. So please excuse my extended cynicism regarding the fuel. I found the Astra, a poor car, again personal opinion before you start looking for facts. But one question Caravadossi, can you hold a substantive argument that supermarket fuel is indeed of the same quality as 'branded' or premium fuel and has no detrimental impact on performance, MPG?

Hi There. I am new to this forum. I have a Grande Punto 1.3 Diesel 75bhp. I have been driving it for 2 years now and bought it with 5,000KM on the clock. I have been keeping close tabs on the diesel i use and the mileage I get and in with a total of almost 82,000KM the average return is 4.340761374 litres per 100KM or 61.97575 mpg. The range is between 51.4 and 70.4 mpg. Hope this helps.

Hi There
I regularly get between56 and 65 mpg with overall average of 61.73565 mpg
over the 82500 km on the car. This is made up of a daily commute 85km each way some of which is motorway, a lot is primary roads, but some bottlenecks and town / country roads. Average driving time is 1 hr 15 to 25 minutes each way.
Maybe my driving has something to do with good returns as on last service at 81295 kms put on first set of brake pads. Is this average?

Just got my highest mpg at the weekend, from a 150 mile mainly motorway journey, i got an average of 62.7 and it peaked at 66.1. The only real difference is that i used V-Power diesel for the first time. Coincidence? Not sure but it's still around 58 after doing short town journeys this week. I never managed over 54 on normal diesel.

On the note of supermarket fuel, the day i filled up with diesel from Asda i got problems with a couple of the fuel injectors, after being in the garage for tests it eventually sorted itself out when it was filled up again. So i'm staying well clear of supermarket fuel.

I usually always use supermarket fuel in mine lol

Have considered using V Power, but Shell is out of the way for me!

Got an average of 54mpg other day when i couldnt go over 50mph due to the spare wheel... petrol guage hardly moved, but i was bored stupid, and felt like a dork being overtaken by trucks :(

Although I can on longer afford V-Power from Shell, I swear it ran better and returned higher mpg. This was not just on a single journey but over many months of using it. Whenever I switched back to standard fuel my mpg dropped slightly and the car felt less nimble.

Supermarket fuel is highly variable, I've found. I think it depends on who delivers it. It's just whatever is available to the likes of Tesco, Asda etc. After all, they don't actually have any refineries do they? What I do know is that supermarket fuel tends to be missing all the additives that clean out your jets etc (so I've read) so keep the cost down. Sounds likely.

I always use Shell standard diesel now and it's definitely better in my car than BP which I tried for a couple of weeks (and a couple of tankfuls). Nothing major, but Shell has that slight edge. Shell is usually cheaper than the others too! Win-Win situation!
