Hello Fiat fans,

My little Flo the Punto (mk2) has been poorly for some time now, and I love the car to bits so dont mind spending a little money on her to bring her back into service.

My issue is that I put her into the garage to have a new clutch and a replacement gearbox from a 55 plate put on as both were knackered when I bought her.

Since then, the sump has been leaking slightly little by little, and the gearbox is making an awful clicking/tapping noise in line with the rev of the engine & both sides of the front suspension makes a banging noise if I go over pot hole... like a real bang, not a bump as you would expect.

So, I need some advise as to whether it is worth me spending the time to source the parts and replace bit by bit, or put a new/reconditioned engine and gearbox in, if this will save some money or be a more reliable thing to do.

Everything else seems to be fine,

Hi,

Its DEFINITELY not worth replacing the engine simply for a leaking sump. its very common problem and fairly cheap/ straightforward to fix. Asuming that apart from the leaking sump, then engine runs sweetly?

Re the clicking/tapping sound. First advice would be to take it back to the garage who replaced your gearbox and clutch (assuming this wasnt a long time ago). Could be something simple like the clutch misaligned rather than a dead gearbox.

Re the suspension. All of the parts are easily available and fairly cheap. You need to take the wheels off and check the condition of the bushes, the top mounts are fairly common failures.
