well runs are about 10 miles in length to and from work. also looks liek thermosta may be gone as temp needle dont go over 1/4 sooo mayeb engine is running to cold and is over fueling hence to rich ?
spark plugs are new been in 2 weks so to early to tell

try a new thermostat, they are abou £12 from a motorfactors.
Might sound daft, but a good "blat" may do the car the world of good, take it for a good long run and make sure it's warmed all the way through.
From your post, it sounds like it's not getting warmed up enough and while it may be that the thermostat needs to be changed it's more likely the car is (for want of a better expression) a bit bunged up.
