Technical Gearbox problem

Hi I'm new here I got a doblo van 1.3 multijet in this recent cold weather I went out to van early in morning to go to work but found could not get gear lever to engage any gears but after 1/2 could select gears same happened the day after is it a frozen gearbox or something more sinister thanks in advance

The gearchange uses cables.. maybe they are Damp.. and that is freezing


If screenwash is freezing.. rainwater is bound to.

DO check the duckbills are not dribbling water all over the gearbox end of the cable

Hi thanks for reply what are duckbills and where are they located please which side of engine am I looking left or right thanks

If the cable is wet & frozen is there any tricks to rectify the problem from reoccurring??

Hi again

Under the windscreen is a Big Steel box known as the Scuttle..

The wipermotor lives in there.. but nothing else.. it a big empty box..

But leaves can get in there and block the Drains at the bottom of it.

The Drains have 2 x rubbery plastic tubes

Known as duckbills.. as they have squashed outer ends.. like the beak of a duck

Look at the back of the engine..

Squeeze the end of the tube.. it may well let out some water and mud / leaf mould

WD40 squirted into the cable area..


Lubricate the cable and sleeve..
Then the Eyes of the Cable to Gearbox linkages

Hi found both duckbills I've now connected two pipes to both so the water now runs away from any problems the water will cause both pipes are secured so they don't interfere with any moving parts we will see if that cures any water from going on the cables
