Hi all,

Been out today to change the clutch in the missus car (Mk1 1.2 8v Punto). Lovely weather for it too :bang: but needs must as it has to be moved by Friday. Gearbox is the type with one cable and the rod.

The problem I'm having is that I don't seem to be able to attach the rod in a manner that actually operates the gearbox. Whenever I attach it, the gearstick is either over the left or over to the right. At best I can only get a couple of gears.

If I move the cable lever I can drop the pin and rotate it, but it just seems to change from one extreme to the other; I can't seem to attach the rod in a way that makes any sense!

Any thoughts?

Regards,

Scott

Selector arm was out of alignment, fixed by taking top panel off gearbox :)

I'm a bit puzzled as to why you have this problem because removal and refitting the rod only involves undoing one 13m nut! perhaps you've mounted the cable bracket wrongly. Once again I can't see any way of doing this as ther are three bolts to go in three holes. On the subject of the rod fixing, the stud from the rod balljoint should face downwards, that's the only thing I can think of, although I don't think it's possible to fit it upwards.
