Technical Gearbox/DMF? problems.

The old fugly has developed a problem. On occasion not always the gearbox has developed a whining noise. Now and then you can hear a whining noise as you accelerate. Its hard to describe but it feels like something is spinning up. Soon as you take your foot off the throttle its stops. The major thing I have noticed is the smell burning gearbox oil from the engine bay. Its now done 116,000 miles and I changed the clutch at about 86,000. Dont know if I can justify repairing it as its the wrong time of year. Any ideas to what it could be would be welcome.:bang:

a few months ago i had a similar problem and i thought my turbo was on the way out but a good look and i found the gasket on the exhaust "after the cat" was blowing a bit...took off pipe new gasket and away it went...

First dry day for a while and I have noticed a puddle of transmission oil under the car.

That's not very good by reading ur thread can u see where it's coming from can buy a solution to stop cracks leaking but not holes

Def think the gearbox is knackered could it be the differential?

Afraid so, 4 years of ownership will be sad to see the Fugly go.

My multi has got a leak on the gearbox too...and smells of gearbox oil when ya put the heater fan on. cluch has also gone so gonna change that this weekend, really cant justify spending 450quid for a garage to do it when car has over 155000 on it!

155 thousand ain't a lot there is a multipla on this forum with 500 thousand on the clock if u look after it it will just keep on going either that or he is just lucky
