hi how many miles will I be able to drive after the fuel warning light has come on in my stilo jtd 115, the needle on the fuel gauge is loose not reading accurately,

Hi. Top it up as soon as the fuel light comes on otherwiseyou will draw all the crap from the bottom of the fuel tank into the engine, may cause lots of future problems and expense.
Personally I never let it run below the quarter mark.

Ok thanks for your help guys don't want any crap in the fuel tank and il try using the trip range to hopefully get gauge fixed or another instrument panel

The Stilo handbook says the warning light comes on when there's 8 litres left.

I've never run my JTD 115 to empty to check. The most I did with the warning light on was 80 miles driving back from Greece a few years ago. It was still running when I stopped for fuel.

This may have been true for some cars decades ago when the fuel pipe came from a union at the bottom of the tank. Now the fuel pipe enters through the top of the tank, and the pick-up doesn't go all the way to the bottom. Combine this with cleaner fuel being supplied to filling stations, and plastic instead of steel fuel tanks in cars (no rust) there's very little debris in fuel from the car's tank.

Any minute particles that do get through will be stopped by the fuel filter before getting to the high pressure pump and injectors.

thats old wives tale, there is almost nothing at the bottom of fuel tank, not even close to block anything or getting its way to the engine

What Davren said... ^^

I've replaced a few fuel pumps in my time and the insides of the (plastic) petrol tanks have been spotless. Old metal ones might have been a different story in the past.

I used to find all sorts in the bottom of petrol tanks.. even flakes of paint (a different colour to my car).

Are the s tilo fuel tanks plastic? How do I remove the clear plastic cover in front of the instrument cluster. I need to try and re fix the fuel gauge needle

Are the s tilo fuel tanks plastic?

Yes.

How do I remove the clear plastic cover in front of the instrument cluster.

There are several clips holding the front, black part to the back, white part. After releasing all the clips, the front, black part will come away clear part still attached to it.
