Technical Fuel pump... Your opinion please

Just had the AA towed my 2004 Fiat Panda 1.2 Dynamic to a garage near my home and the AA man knows it is the fuel pump that is gone because he had to tap under the car to move the fuel along.

The garage mechanic will give me a quote soon and I would some advices to arm myself.


My understanding that the fuel pump is actually on top of the tank under the rear-seat?


How much do you reckon to replace the part?

The pump is in the tank, can be accessed by removing the base of the rear seats.

Not sure how the AA bloke can know its gone, and not just blocked, or a loose connection, but I trust the garage will investigate further?

Price - depends upon if its new or used.

what is actually happening when AA man tapped under the fuel tank, which helped the car to start? Loosen up dirt in pipe/hose?
