Recently when I've filled up with fuel, the pump keeps clicking off even when I only hold the handle in very lightly. Its starting to get annoying and its happening at all the petrol stations i've been to recently. No matter which angle the nozzle is, either straight or tilted to the side slightly, it still clicks off even with no force at all. The nozzle is in the hole as far as it can go too so Its not as if its going back inside.

Does anyone know what this could be? It only started about a week ago and I'm baffled

Its the same thing i have with mine mate

When i was at sainsbury's the pump switched off because i couldn't put fuel in fast enough to fill it

The lady ended up coming out and filling it - there is a device called an Anti-syphoning device - and as the air is forced out of the tank - it trigger the anti-syphone :( so it keeps clunking and clunking and letting you only dribble feed the car

Im affraid u've just gotta live with it
She also said its very common amongst punto's ur not the only1 to struggle with them

It must be fixable. I thought an anti syphone device was just a wire mesh stopping a tube going into the tank?

I'd hate to get behind you at a busy petrol station then, hehe:p.

I hope you manage to find a soloution.

Jon.

there is an angle you can hold it at and if you pull the actual pump out a little i have found stops some of the problems you are talking about, although yes it is at a daft angle forcing it to happen more often than with other cars

I find that if you kind of wedge the nozzle in.. like stick it in and push downwards (not so hard you break it!).. and then give it a go it works better. Also if you squeeze gradually and not all the way down straight away that helps too.

:)

I used to have this problem with my Punto, just started holding the nozzle at a 25 degree angle and it fills up fine now..:D

Most cars have this problem. Usually if you take the nozzle and insert it and start filling it up, if it clicks, bring the whole thing back on and hold up right. Then, put it back in and start filling up - it should be fine! I have had this problem just as much as you have probably, try this and if not, just try different angles. Also, maybe not pushing the pump nozzle in so much.

just dont push it in the whole way, halfway and it will be fine if you hold the trigger at any speed.

Same problem for me, it's pretty annoying. I find that rather than boshing it all the way in, if you pull back a little from there so it's just in, it usually works fine. I think there's many little tricks, just depends which one works best for your car! Doesn't stop it being a pain in the arse though.

Thanks for the tips guys, but it no matter what I try it still does it  Its that silly little anti-syphoning door that gets me, go too far past it and it clicks like mad or just go a little past it and it still does it :( Ah well, I guess i'll find some way soon haha.

Its a safety feature on the pump itself to stop blow backs occurring. The pump is reading the air coming out of your tank as fuel and so keeps cutting off.

I find that putting the pump around 3/4 of the way in solves the problem!

i found with my mk2 that if you stick the nozzle in and it starts clicking off, pull the nozzle out so that the flap is open, but the nozzle is still in, and then shake the car slightly with your shoulder, it worked a treat for me.

think it causes all the gases and fumes to escape. Worked for me anyway.
