Hi all

my front wiper kept blowing a fuse, i know its the front one because i have removed the rear one.

The wiper will get to the top of the screen and then just stop and blow the fuse. I stuck a bit of tin-foil inside a fuse to stop it blowing but that went on fire last night, thank god i cought it in time, so now i really need to fix this as i have no wipers and if it rains im ****ed!

what do we think? faulty motor?

cheers guys

i would wire the motor direct to a battery and measure the current it's pulling. that should give you an indication of whether it's the motor/linkage or wiring.

Wipe blow a fuse

Ive had the same trouble and I drive a Fiat Bravo 1.4 12V 1996! I've changed once a 20 fuse then it blew and i put a 30 fuse. Now it is working...so far! ;)

cheers

Re: Wipe blow a fuse

changed to a 30a fuse.. doing the job for now BUT!!!

My wiper is parking in top of the screen, the exact opposide of where it should be!! is the relay fried?

Re: Wipe blow a fuse

its a fire risk to replace fuses with an higher rated one.
a new wiper motor is far cheaper than another car.... :(

Re: Wipe blow a fuse

Craig, its called natural selection. :)

If the wipers are stopping and blowing fuses it means the linkage and/or motor are sticking. Get a haynes manual, take them apart, see whats worn, replace and regrease.

Wiper motors should not draw 30A, you will damage the motor, the wiring, the switch...

Re: Wipe blow a fuse

yeah it must have been a massive draw to make the fire...

anyways, will take apart the linkage ect.. will spray grease do the job?

Re: Wipe blow a fuse

God no! Proper gloopy grease. Spray grease dries in days and stops working.
