Has anyone had their front struts out, or replaced the top mountings?
Any pictures?
I need to look at sorting mine soon, the rubber under the top plate looks like it's sheared, or at least badly worn.

My struts/wishbones are all stripped out at the moment and I've started cleaning up the bits that will be carried over. Struts, top bearings, wishbones, springs and bolts are all being replaced with new. I'll take some piccies as I progress. It'll either be this weekend or next.

The old top bearings (the 'turntables', not the rubber bit) had some slop in them. The rubber of the top mounting was also starting to perish, but hadn't come away from the metal.

Thanks WMF.
Just had a look at you topic on this, do you have any pictures of the strut-tops assembled, and of the mounting plates themselves?

Hi BD

I haven't started putting the new struts together yet, but will take photos as I go. Hopefully I'll be putting them together next weekend, possibly a bit sooner.

For starters though, here's a photo of the underside of the inner wing with the strut removed and two of the top mounting and its' bearing. The old strut came out very easily - no seized nuts or bolts.

These are the top kits supplied by Shop4Parts. SKF, so should be good quality. There's some flashing over of the rubber on the top plate, but that's a minor complaint.

Hi

I've had mine off and replaced recently, as the middle part of the shock top was rattling around inside the outer part, there was practically no rubber at all. Getting them off was easy enough, aside from a seized strut bolt. The scariest part was compressing the spring to replace the shock tops. I did one fine, but then the spring compressor slipped on the other, but luckily didn't take me with it, unlike the last one (Pug 406 - looooong springs). I took it to a local mechanic who fitted it for £15, he said it took him 2 pairs of compressors to do it.

Other than that, it's a typically Multipla procedure: plan it, start it, get stuck with lack of decent access and/or seized bolts, remedy access/ seizure (+ 2hours) then carry on with remainder of removal and fitting. Job done.

Best of luck.

Cheers

James
