Hi group,

My car failed MOT and was given the reason is a broken front offside coil spring. It was a surprise as I have not heard any noise coming from it. The garage told me that they have to order the original one from Italy and together with a rear shock absorber quoted me £950  and unsure of the delivery times.

Have asked at a few garages and reading this forum it seems this (broken coil spring) is a common issue with Tipos and only the original part exists. I tried to find one online and on the shop4parts the price is £240 (which is ridiculous). What I am confused about is the OEM number. On the s4p site it gives two 52097409 and 52058435.

Does anyone know if both would fit a front offside coil spring on a 2017 Fiat Tipo 1.4 95ps hatchback?

I found one 52097409 on ebay from a genuine seller, but they told me I need to look for 52058435. On a polish website I found that 52097409 is a new OEM for 52058435, but not sure if this is true.

Any help is welcome!

Hello,

Too new to appear in ePER :( and on other sites I know, they all have the same database :(

I don't believe no other parts producer is making springs for one of the most popular FIATs, which is quite recent.

Ask the dealer to provide the spare part number according to VIN. They can't force you to buy original parts from them.

Thank you for checking! Another big name retailer on ebay told me that 52097409 is the right part as they are not sided…

on mine I decided to go with eibach pro kit and Bilstein b6. £820 for 4 springs and 4 shocks
I guess you have to change front and back if you go for sport suspension? How does it ride now? Is it significantlymore uncomfortable? (I mostly use mine for family run arounds, so not looking for a sporty feel :D)

I guess the benefit of that is that next time coil spring breaks (and it seems that happens often), it is cheaper and easier to find a replacement.

Difference so far ( done 300miles) is
- car is 25mm lower ( no problem with speed bumps so far)
- much more grounded feeling
- less body roll
- rear is more tidy at high speed and sudden manoeuvre
- a bit more culture in front end pot hole pick up
- touch stiffer front
- I’m still on winter tyres so can’t tell how much better it is compared to proper summer setup
- parts are cheap compared to original ie 4 springs at £164

Also eibach spring are much better quality than Fiat oe, not even mentioning shocks ( especially rear)

Right, that sound ok! and yeah, £164 for all 4 is much better than £170 - £240 for one :)

Yup can get standard spring from eibach too and b4 shocks but can’t tell you how they feel like and how durable they are. I’ve got same setup ( pro+b6) on my Alfa. No problems last 8 years and 120k miles

What did you go for in place of them if I may ask?
Had some custom springs made by suplex... replaced the dampers all round with B6 units and spaced the track out front and rear, which removed the horrible full lock over centre feeling of the steering, just looking at fitting a modified punto grande rear roll bar (aftermarket upgrade for the punto grande)... then trying to convience Superflex to make a castor adjustable front wishbone bush (rear bush)...

Lovely can I jump into same wagon with you? I need to make my car less of a turd while driving. Where are you based if I may ask?

I'm Ediburgh/Scotland based... But spend most of my time on a plane or driving around the UK (do spend a bit of time around my old adopted home town of Leeds)... Superflex won't make a custom bush... unless we got a reasonable order together... I know the guys there, But don't have the time spare to sort a 'Group buy'... if you want to do that half of the equation, I'll do the design and speak with Superflex....or Superpro.... I know these guys moderately well as they did the castor bush on my Giulietta 1.7 tbi (wish I'd never sold that car...) the roll bar is from Ultra racing in Italy... I can chat to them about buying two... Although I have NO idea how it'll fit on yet....

Im From Leeds;) yes count me in I may have another guy who wants to be in. I work all across the country too so may have a cuppa at some point;)

OK... So... Roll Bar?... or Bushes? or both???

I've got my T-jet handling OK... the turn in is a bit poo... hence looking at a rear bar, Will help the high speed stability too.... The bushes will get rid of the stupid void bushes and the way they move around in the high load low speed situations.... Need to get onto HEL to sort some brake lines as although the Brembo disks and pads have improved the braking... there's still too much 'slack' in the system....
Have you done anything with the motor yet?...

Both please
I’ve got 1.6 diesel due to our long Europe runs. So far had gearbox all bearing failed at 59k ( covered by warranty) and same for dmf ( due to same thing). I’m up for brakes upgrade ( with braided lines) on probably remap, however that’s with quaife diff for gearbox too.been contemplating swap of Giulietta DNA and steering rack so I can put it permanently in Dynamic mode

Yeah, I can imagine the diesel is even worse than the t-jet with the extra weight on the front... I've driven our Tipo down to Southern italy twice now... it's averaged around 42-44 mpg on those trips (cruising along around 75 ish)....
Been doing a bit of digging and it seems the T-Jet fitted to the Tipo is in a much lower state of tune to the same engine in a 500 Abarth... Smaller turbo (VL36 in the Tipo VL38 on the Abarth) and the cams are much softer, with less lift... I've done a bit to mine already... currently she's managing just over 160 BHP... (Re-map, Panel Filter, Abarth coils, Abarth pressure sensors, Forge Turbo Actuator)... It's not fast, Just less slow... Hence why I've had to do some work to the chassis... With 160 Bhp on the std car it was dangerous... It's now back to being just 'Bad'

Some Piccys FYI.... You might like the boot badge....

Looks lovely, just had my summer set of alloys refurbed. I’m currently on winters 16s. I think we’ve hijacked a thread a bit. Shall we ask mod to be moved to new topic like Tipo performance modifications maybe?
