In a previous post I said that my alt light was glowing faintly. A few days ago I drove the car a couple of miles. When I went to restart the car it barely caught. It sounded like the battery was almost dead.

When I got home I turned it off and immediately tried to restart but absolutely nothing happened. I had instrument lights, dome light, and headlights but nothing else.

I removed all grounds and sanded them down to copper. I did the same on the alternator ground and checked all its connections. I then jumped the car and let it run for about 30 minutes. I shut if off and tried to restart but again it was completely dead. This time the instrument lights were dim and I had no headlights. To me, this indicates the alternator isn't charging. But there are always those pesky grounds.

I have not taken the alternator to have it checked. I was wondering if there is anything else that I may do before removing the alternator and hauling it to the auto parts store for testing.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
