Fish tank?

Fish tank?

the best theme.. for me its the wild/natural theme. i let my plants over grow... just a little bit.

bigger plants to the back in the midrange i get a few lumps of bogwood.. cover them in java moss then some small plants in the foreground..
would look mint.

check out the carpet grass too.. in sand it grows well and the catfish love it!

oh and to keep sand clean.. easiest thing in the world to keep clean. make sure you dont over feed and get a few >corydoras catfish< they will keep it nice and clean. they stay small and are the most peaceful fish in the world.

heres a video of my other tank... yes i know i have goldfish in with tropicals and a heated tank.. its easy to do, but not good with guppies as they are buggers for nipping fins.

Edit: the vibration is caused by the filter, they are buggers for it. make sure the pipes/wires are not trapped when you close the lid.. failing that make sure the bulbs are screwed in tight. and the light reflector is also screwed in tight. the top cover prys off easy to get in it.

most of them in that tank were rescue fish, some were in a right state. you can see the odd one is still a little deformed but it will hopefully be something they will out grow.

as for cleaning.. hehe you should google "JBL" fish tank products. they make this kick ass cleaning magnet that nukes algae. hang on..

^^That video use to **** me off so much in the shop.. we had that and 3 others like it looped constantly. drove you effin mad! i can recite that video word from word!

will do, i think its the plastic cover tbh, the bit that comes off to change the lights.

one last question honestly, how essential is a condensation cover?

one came with it but I dismissed it.

didnt see the last bit of your post, thanks for that will have a look round for it!

when i see those videos i just ignore them - "yeaaah this super duper pooper scooper will scoop so smoothly, so quickly you wont believe your eyes"...sorry its getting late and im half functioning ;)

haha made me laugh how she pronounces 'algae'

its not vital, i keep mine in. it just stops any crusy crap build up around the top and sides of the tank. if you run bubbles in the tank.. you really should have it in.

it helps keep the water in the tank and not evaporate away.. air stones can really make the water level drop with no condensation cover.

mine has now gone brittle and cracked well it is 4 years old.. lol i am just going to replace it with some clear perspex sheeting.

check my last post i added loads to it lol

nahh, just treat it as a water change. try to save as much as you can with what you have.
dragonman: done the change. think it looks much better now. I trimmed some of that algae stuff down but its still there. Any chance you can confirm it? some water has dried on the glass making it hard to see but hopefully you can see what i mean

yeah thats hair algae.. otherwise known as blanket weed. its tough stuff to get rid of once you have got it.

for your ornaments i would recommend taking them out and putting them in a bleach solution.. same for the heater and the filter, all but the sponge/ceramics and carbon filter pad. leave that in the tank.
leave them in for an hour or so, that should kill it off.
another thing you can do is from them all in vinegar. does the same job.
give them a dip for about 2 hours.. dont worry your tank wont go cold in that time. once thats done make sure you rinse off ALL bleach.. infact dip them in fresh water a few times to make sure you've got all the bleach off.

as for the plants.. theres not really much you can do besides manualy remove it from the leaves you can try a pond "Blanket weed" killer. that would work.
besides the algae the tank looks mint. once the plants have grown a bit it will look really good.
top job!

thanks a lot mate! got some bogwood at the back but not sure if you can see it, think i buried it a bit too much.

do you think theres enough hiding places for the catfish you mentioned previously?

as for the algae, those ornaments are brand new but will try and treat the plants. its only that big one that has it so shouldnt be too bad hopefully

This thread has motivated me to sort my tank out, need to do something sharpish I'm overstocked and there's several constant territory battles going on.

the amount of ****e that came out of my tank after changing it all was unbelieveable.

didnt realise how dirty it really was!

I've had a tank up and running for the best part of 5 years, religeously cleaned every fortnight, I took the gravel out and washed it with a sieve in a bucket amazing how much crud there was, mostly very fine silt.... which can only be fish bits and poo :yuck:

Not done my tank yet - did garden instead, then noticed karate kid III on :eek:

Just finished setting up one of my small tanks for the first time in probably a few years. Just need to wait a week or so and transfer the females out of the big tank, that should slow the breeding down (y)

theres a much faster way of doing that... you have a filter in your other tank? clean it in the new tank.. let the filter in that suck up all the muck and mess..
instant started tank

been doing that trick for years ;)
