I put my 1990 2.4 td Fiat Ducato base Hymer B544 motorhome in the garage last summer (I am in Greece) for a replacement water pump. Discovered the thermostat housing was badly corroded & have been looking for a replacement ever since. Must have contacted all the breakers yards in UK & many throughout Europe. Also all specialist fb classic motorhome groups.
Have had 3 housings sent out, all were the wrong ones. Pretty sure my engine is Sofim 8144.21 (the van was registered in Feb 1990, but was probably made in 1989). According to Fiat part no. 4852459. Mechanic says it is too corroded to weld.
Can anyone help? To be honest I'm at my wits' end & don't know what to do. Apart from the housing it's a perfectly good motorhome.

Post a photo of your thermostat housing.

Keep looking online a used one will turn up eventually.

Thanks for the encouragement, after nearly a year of looking for the part & the van being off the road I'm feeling a little discouraged. Pics of the old part attached.

What a beauty!

That looks correct for the part number you previously quoted.

Consider finding a tube that will be a close fit sliding into the corroded away stub . Clean inside of stub really well and bond the tube into the housing using strong heat resistant epoxy. Then cut the tube to the stub length you want.

Peugeot and citroen vans of the same era used the same engines , I'm sure you know that if not search for housing from Peugeot or citroen.

Good luck , keep looking
