Hello everyone!

My name is bamise, I have owned this fiat Punto 2004 mk2 1.2l for 8 months now, I usually get about 5.9l/100km on a normal day but recently my fuel consumption just increased to 9l/100km. The car jerks while I am driving also and it idles a little rough. It has no problem starting though. I took the car to the mechanic today but
he could not figure out what is wrong with the Car.
I use the car for Food delivery which has made it difficult for me to work because of the high fuel consumption. It has 171000km mileage…

Any suggestions about the reason for the problems.

Hi, 🙂

Does it have a Circular Air cleaner, or Rectangular? Sat on top if the engine

Oil filler cap: screw on.. Or a Rubber Plug?

Favourites would be:

Misfire.. Does the Yellow engine light show?

Head Gasket, does the coolant level drop?

Is the exhaust now loud?

Any work carried out in the last 12 months? Any oil changes, other servicing..? 🤔

One other thing...

Does it have a temperature Gauge.. Where does it sit. In the Centre..? 🤔

Is the Heater still HOT when needed?

Hi, thanks for your response.
The car was serviced about 3 months ago. I took it to a car service workshop and changed the oil and oil filter.

•I have a circular air filter. I opened it and check at it seems to be in good condition.
• Rubber plug oil filler
• Yes the coolant level drop and I top it up few days ago. It dropped almost beneath the MAX level.
• the check engine light doesn’t show although few months back most especially during the winter months, the engine light comes on sometimes and the temp gauge drops below zero. But it goes back to normal when I turn the car off and turn it on again. The engine light goes off.
• the exhaust is a little loud especially in the mornings when I start the car and black smoke comes out before the car warms up.
• the temperature gauge doesn’t sit in the centre, it stays just above the 0 mark and never rises to the centre. Sometimes it fluctuates and rises to the centre. But most times it is just above the 0 mark.
• the Heater was hot during the winter but now that it’s spring in Finland I use the AC but recently when this problem started the AC seem not to cool as it use to do before.

Thanks for you attention. I appreciate the assistance.

Hi,

Ok :

The Thermostat may be stuck open..

So poor Heating And using extra fuel

Aircon.. It WILL use fuel..( But only the same as Last summer)
Unless there is a fault.. (So car engine working harder)

Coolant dropping..
Below MIN.. or Below MAX?

You can see the level with a torch.. Seeing Through the discoloured plastic
= view from the side

IF you need to top up regularly that is Bad News

Thanks for your reply

The Car consumes more petrol even without turning on the AC.

The coolant level didn’t drop below MIN but just below the MAX. I do fill it to the brim before. And I haven’t filled it for months now.

I observe this increase fuel consumption without even turning on AC

Re:
I also noticed that the Car struggles to accelerate whenever I press the gas pedal
